Thread: Can you cover the car while for sealant to cure

  1. 09-19-2012 02:53 AM #1
As the title says I am about to start the process of preping the paint ect for winter, and wanted to know when I am done for the night can i cover the car with a 100% cotton sheet to protect against debris that fall on it over night? Or will this not allow the sealant to bond with the paint, I am going to be using the Prima Amigo, and powerlock, both on separate days as i am on "vacation" and not going anywhere . If I can't cover what method is best to remove the debris that fall overnight? Figured I could use a QD and a clean MF cloth but wanted to be sure before I start the process. so I dont install micro marring in the sealant layer before a final wax.

Define curing? A QD isn't a good idea anyway .. sealants need a clean surface to bond to and clean = no other chemicals.

I am clay baring the car today/tommrow and covering it in my garage with some 100% cotton flat sheets I have, BUT after I place the sealant on I know it needs 12 to 24 hours to cure or how some of the other forums said the polymers to bond to the paint. I was unsure if this would cause an issue if a sheet was resting on top of the car during this bonding phase. Probably looking WAY to deep into this but want to make sure.

There is no need to cover the car after you applied sealant if its going to stay in a garage.

I would wash the car off if it is has a layer on it from sitting over night versus using a QD. Make sure you're using an approved car wash soap ..... i.e. not a de-greaser like dawn etc as its de-greasers could break down the newly laid sealant.

As long as the surface is cool, clean and dry. you can put down the second coat.

Are you refering to curing as leaving the sealant on the car for 12/24 hours before you wipe it off?

I am using powerlock, so i am going to apply let haze 20 to 30 min, wipe down, the cure time from what i read in between coats is 12 to 24 hours. some mornings i have dead fruit flies ect that sneek in when someone goes in during the night to get something, i figured after i have wiped the car down i could toss a cotton sheet over it so i can carefull remove the next morning and get back too work. Its 100% coton and will fold on and off car to prevent maring. after the second im topping with carnuba.
