Evap EmissionControl system leak detected came up when i went to the emissions center today, the engine light just came on as I pulled up to the testing center..... please let me know what you think, or at least where to start.

    2000 GTI VR6 2.8 GLX, had an engine swap August 20th 2012.

Did you check the hoses connected to the back of the engine (there are three or four on the firewall side of the intake manifold).

    Are they all connected?

Are any cracked? Check the one coming from the brake booster.

I have found many cracks along those lines. Repairing them fixed the CELs. Good luck.

Thank you, as I am a "noobe" would i check from the top part of the engine or underneath? I keep reading about checking something under the spare tire but have yet to inspect anything that is out of order.

    Thank you for the info!!

Best way to test it is with a VAG com and hose clamp. Clear the code and test it again. Go to block 71 on basic settings. That will trigger the test. If it fails clear the code again. Pinch off the hose before the N80 purge valve. Test it again. If it passes then all the evap components and connections are good. Test agian with the hose pinched after the N80. If it passes then the n80 is good. That means its between the N80 and the intake manifold. Since you did a swap recenty I would check the connections and N80. They are known to get stuck causing a evap leak and small vacuum leak as well.
