Thread: Start up problem

  1. 09-23-2012 01:14 AM #1
    Hello, all,

I've been suffering for this issue for quite a while. My passat 06 is experience a hard time to start up after sitting over night. The first attempt in the morning is always shaky. Then, it starts up okay during the day. Even like after driving 5 mins and I can restart it without any problem. But it's the first time of the day that troubles me.

And some history, my battery died completely like 2 months ago, and I replaced it with a Duracell. At first, it has no problem start up at all. But there was one day I forgot to turn of the lights and leaved my car over night. The next morning, I was able to start it but with some difficulty. Since then, I have been experiencing hard times in starting up. Any body can offer some solution? Or point out the issue? I'm really afraid to have a dead battery in a parking lot 1 hour away from my apartment again Thank in advance.

take it to where ever you bought the battery and have them test the battery. also you should hook a battery charger to it and let it charge over night. when you say theres a hard time starting, does it crank? maybe the starter is going out

I have a similar issue, it would almost pull the car a small bit, almost like it was in gear or something, dont think its a battery though. never really focused on it too much.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

if yoy have a 2.0t and it only happens after the car has sat overnight and its cooler out its is prob due to carbon build up on the intake valves. It is know to cause cold start issues

It does crank up, eventually. I will give a test on the battery. Does Autozone have battery check service? But I'm kinda expecting something else is wrong. I made a 8 hours trip like 2 weeks ago. Is that sufficient to charge up the battery? Thank you for your reply

Yes, you are right on, 2.0t. Anything I can do to have the intake cleaned? Appreciate it.

Yes autozone has the service. And yea a 8hr trip should've charged the batt haha. Others are saying carbon build up, I didn't even think of that.

I know you guys probably don't have a 1.9tdi in US, but anyone know if the carbon built up could be the issue on my car? its a 06 with 260K KM so im guessing the build up could be quite severe

Yeah, I checked my battery cold start-up ampere(???). My battery exceeded the rating. I think it's the carbon buildup problem. I'll perform a seafoam through air intake treatment I guess.

Honestly....this will do nothing. The Intake manifold should be removed and valves properly cleaned. Dealership will charge you arm and leg. Find good Euro shop, they will do t for about half. Or....DIY.

Like Red said sea foam will do next to nothing that carbon is like concrete.

Diy-ing isnt really hard just tedious and time consuming
