Hell Yes! I have an 07 Sport pkg II with 104k on it and I love it! i wouldn't give it up for anything right now. I commute almost an hour each way and its the best overall pkg. I had an 06 that was also a great car that I put 70k on it! Both where/are very reliable so far.

We've only had our 2010 since August but its been great overall. Couple interior rattles that need addressing but my wife (who DD's it) is enamored with it, and that's what matters. The engine is great, love the DSG and ours came with the RNS510 which has been a nice feature to have.

If I were to buy a car for ME, I'd either get a CC or TDI Sportwagen.

That said, we'd re-buy our car in a heartbeat.

    Yes absolutely!
146k km /91k miles almost problem free (mostly operator error) in my experience; you take care of it and it takes care of you in style and function.

07 2.0FSI TIP sedan, 68K, bought used with 54K and a CPO warranty, no mods.
Nitpicky and potentially expensive issues-all covered by CPO-and oil consumption would probably make me go for a later TSI, and I miss my wagon.
Overall, I think its a great driver's car out of the box and am pleased to read how many owners have higher mileage B6s with no issues.

Mine is one of the very last 3.6L 4Motion wagons. Fully loaded, only missing Dynaudio I believe. Currently at 66K miles and has been rock solid. Definitely would purchase it again. In fact, it will be very hard to let go. I have been looking at the new S4 as a possible replacement, but I would have settle for a sedan.

What I like best: power and grip (4motion), paddle shift, AFS xenon, usage space and pockets everywhere for small stuffs, power lift gate, rear sunshades, superb leather sport seats, pretty good exhaust note. This car has better options/features than my Audi A4.

What I like least: road noise, that's it. (no rattles)

I've owned my Passat B6 for two years. I got a new clutch a couple of days ago. It's my second time to change the DSG clutch. Since it's still under warranty, I paid nothing but my precious time for it. I swear I won't buy another VW vehicle in my life.

2007 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T Wolfsburg Edition
    09-29-2012 08:21 AM #43
I own a 07 Passat Wolfsburg. I drove it pretty rough through the hills of San Francisco. Other than minor electrical problems with the sunroof and high usage of motor oil, I would cautiously say I'd buy it again. It has done everything for me and I never had any transmission problems. It seems to me that the Passats now are not as appealing or great which is why my uncle bought at GLI. But I think with most other people that we did well for ourselves.

My wife has an '07 sport manual ~202k which has been superb. A few minor engine expenses with EGR or PCV having to be replaced a couple of times and a moderate expense when we did a carbon cleaning and replaced all injectors. Never stranded us at any point, the closest was when a coil pack went south, but it still drove and was only a couple of miles away from a dealer at the time who swapped it out in short order. We have not had any problems with the cam follower and have had it checked each shop visit since we had my timing belt work done around 120k.

I have been using the best Motul oil I can find, x-lite, x-max, or x-clean depending on what is available and do a 10-15k change interval.

All main components (1 change for the rear brakes) are original and the car still has a velvety ride and the transmission is buttery smooth.

I have 115,000 miles on my 2008 FSI and I love it more than the day I bought it. Of course, I've adjusted a few things since then that didn't come to my prefernce from the factory. If I had to do it over, or again soon, I'd go for an Audi and/or TDi. But, the difference between a VW FSi and Audi 2.0T or TDi anything, is not a huge difference.

I would say yes. I lucked out on an 08 TSI manual and it has been a great pleasure to drive. I also have a 93 cabriolet to kick around in when the sun is shining. Best of both worlds. VW has done right by me!

    Cheers!

So far I've had the oil pump bolt issue, steering column & comfort module replaced (twice), visor replaced (vanity lights inoperable), defective XM unit replaced, passenger power lumbar support replaced, 6 wheels replaced (chipping clear coat) and 4 more doing the same, CPO warranty period is pretty short (at least on my '06), peeling soft-touch switches, airbag connector recall, N80 purge valve replaced, and the coil pack recall. To top it off as of yesterday I have a fuel pressure regulator code and today's news is an evap code.

This car has probably had more issues by number, dealer visits, and monetarily (if it weren't for the now-expired warranty) than the last 5 cars my wife and I have owned combined - 62k miles driven vs well over 600k miles.

That being said, I love the car, or at least driving it. The price, size, power, and handling characteristics won us over when we bought it. I just can't see myself spending any more time or money on another VW.

I purchased our car used in June with 67K miles. It is now mid October, the car has 73k miles, and this is the list of things that have been broken and repaired. Most say I just got a lemon, but I would not buy another due to these experiences.

    1. Left front coil spring (the spring was broken, this resulted in replacing both front springs, struts, and strut bearings) COST: $1200

    2. Steering Rack (the rack failed due to a bad torque sensor, the sensor is built into the rack, resulting in the entire rack being replaced) COST: $1800

    3. CV boot (it was cut, dealer replaced at) COST: $282

    4. Front wheel bearings (dealer said they were bad when we had the oil changed) COST: $724

    5. Front brakes (I know this is to be expected on a used car) COST: $470

So in total, that is $4006 in repairs, and $470 in maintenance. I have owned many other vehicles and have never spent that much on maintenance in any of those vehicles lifetime, yet I have spent this much on this Passat in the last 4 months. I had some diehard VW family members convince me to buy a VW, but it is a decision I now regret.

Forgot one other repair, we just had the auxillary water pump replaced this week due to the car leaking coolant. Cost on this repair was $494, so that brings the 4 month total repair cost up to $4500 in 4 months.

Let me add another problem...today...the check engine light came on and the car sometimes shudders. When the car shudders, the check engine light flashes. Looks like another trip to the stealership this week. This car is going to bankrupt me.

Dude, get rid of it, even if you owe and roll the balance into another ride. That's just throwing good money after bad and hoping it ends, but doesn't sound like it's going to.

@fedexguy: that's rough man it sounds like you have a lemon indeed.

As my signature line shows, I have a thing for unusual German cars. My Allroad was amazing..... the engine was fantastic but it needed another gear. Driving feel was the best of all three and the
torsen AWD system was the most fun to drive hard.
The Phaeton was in a class of it's own but maintenance costs were simply horrific. If you've never driven one you need to, but unless your disposable income is greater than mine it's best admired from afar.

Which brings me to the Passat. It sounds great. The exhaust sound is fantastic! Mileage is acceptable. The extended warranty makes me feel ok about quality foibles.
Most important is the feel.....these days everyone builds a "good" car. I want a car that I enjoy driving. Something that gives me a bit of a thrill just starting it up for the morning commute. My wagon has it.
Last month I got a 2012 Passat while mine was in the shop. No comparison, the new model is just a Camry with a VW badge.

I'm still very happy with my 2007 3.6L Sport. Only minor issues in the first 6 months, all covered by the warranty. My only gripes:

--I've always been underwhelmed by the navigation unit.
--What the heck is that fluttering sound in the dash??? I always thought it was the DVD reader, but I remember seeing a post staing otherwise.
--I wish the Dynaudio system had more bass.
--The 3.6L has always been supremely powerful, but finicky off the line even after the update. And downshifting has been hard over the past 20k. (At 50k now) Sport mode has always had crazy downshifting issues.

We have had our Passat for exactly a year to the day and we have had no major issues with the car. Its the 07 FSI. The only issues we have had with it were a loose door mirror glass and airbag harness and both things were covered by the warranty. We got it with 46K and now have almost 70k on it.

    @fedexguy

I would get rid of it the moment its fixed. I had so many issues with my passat it wasnt even funny. I took care of that car like no one else would. Maintained it and it would go into the dealership ever couple of months with something wrong with it. The last straw was water leaking into the cabin and developing mold. Cost me $500 to have fixed and that is when i said enough is enough. Now im happy that its out of my life and out of my bank account!
