Thread: Window not rolling up

  1. 09-24-2012 06:59 AM #1
So the other day i was taking a drive in my VW passat glx and rolled down my window to egt some fresh air. But once i got home and tried to get it back up it wouldnt go up. Its not the manual crank its the switch type. Does anybody know what could be causing my window to not roll up? I am in the process of trying to sell it because i cant afford a car anymore with my hours being cut by half at work. I am worried this is going to seriously hurt the amount i am trying to get for it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

IF IT IS A B4 MOST LIKELY THE WINDOW REGULATOR IS BROKEN; LIKE 99% OF THOSE CARS.

IF IT IS A B3; MAYBE A FUSE BUT THEY RARELY HAVE ISSUES WITH THE WINDOWS NOT WORKING.

i talked to him yesterday about buying some back up regulators out of his b4 passat, before finding out my CEL is on from a misfire on cyl 6, so going to get that figured out, braced for replacing coilpack Zzzzz

he will give you a reasonable price.

I disagree. The single most often referred problem with the B4 windows is track alignment! The front track felt becomes worn allowing the window to "drop out" at the bottom. The regulators are pretty robust however there is a limit switch inside them that does wear out. If your window doesn't go up, pull the door panel off and let us know what you find.

I estimate based on personal experience and all the friends I have that own multiple B4's that regulator failure afflicts less than half of the window problems. Both my B4's have needed a "realignment" of the front track after the damn window fell out. My friend owns 3 B4's and he had exactly the same troubles on all 3 cars. I've only experienced one regulator failure due to cam plate wear, however it did still function. Hope this helps.

how do you do this realignment business? I think this is one of my many problems...window goes up crooked unless I put pressure on the glass with my hand.
    COYS!!!
