Thread: Electrical Fault - Indicators & Battery voltage indicator

  1. 09-24-2012 07:13 AM #1
Returning home from the theatre on Sat with my 2004 3.2v6 petrol found indicator dash repeater lights & clicks not working, though could see from mirror repeaters the indicator lights themselves were working.
Then I noticed battery voltage indicator was at zero.
Suspected alternator, so drove home on side lights to save battery.
Day after tried again and all back to normal.
Not driven car since so problem will probably recur
Not battery or alternator as battery fully charged & starts fine.
Came across identical symptoms on an earlier post on this forum but no resolution & conclusion or follow up given.
Anyone come across this problem / solution.
Bad earth on instrument cluster or faulty ECU suggested?
Anyone know if these system are controlled by ECU as this could be ominously expensive?
Anyone know how I could obtain wiring diagram / manual for this model?
    Regards Tom

Probably the cluster going out. It was a known thing on 04's and not fixable, just need to replace the cluster its self. Are you having any issues with the MFI display fading in heat or anything like that?

Yeti - Thanks for your swift reply.
Had no other problems with the display - I take it the MFI display is the one in the centre of the instrument cluster which gives warnings?
What's involved in removing the cluster - is this a job I can undertake myself?

PS - enjoyed a visit to the Harley D factory in York a few years ago - great visit.

I am going to do this as politically correct as I can, do a google search and it will lead you to info on what you are asking as far as cluster swap/replacement. Or I could PM you a more direct answer if you would like. Certain things can't be said here for it will be moderated.

I am glad you liked the Harley plant, personally I am not a fan of them. It may not be there much longer from what I am hearing from others here in York.
