    Thread: Q5 tdi?

    1. 09-24-2012 11:27 AM #1
When do we get to see the new Q5 TDI in the US? This seems like a perfect blend of performance and mileage to me. Anyone have the info?

Hope so. Love the q5 but I swore to myself that my next car will be diesel.

I was told maybe as early as second quarter. If it's a 2014 then, it'll be an early 2014 as those usually don't show up until beginning of third quarter.

Interesting that the Q5 TDI gets an S-tronic transmission in most of the world while we will probably only get the Tiptronic.....

It's a market taste thing. S tronic gets dinked on customer service surveys with JD Power and the like. Tiptronic is preferred more by folks in the USA so we only get S tronic on S and RS models.

      Which TDI do they contemplate?

anyone having a problem with the size and location of the mirror causing a blind spot of oncoming traffic or lack of visibility on the left turn say if there is an island.
We nearly got wiped out because did not see car coming at us form the left.
I have heard others complain, Audi and Boardwalk Audi plano texas ignoring me.
      I think this is dangerous.
      Help. Hylton.

I've never heard of this problem and have logged plenty of miles on Q5 without a problem or sense I was missing something. That said, if it's really a problem for you as a driver you might consider checking to see if the smaller A4 mirror is a compatible swap.

I'm in the UK and have just ordered an SQ5 TDI in Estoril Blue Black/Lunar interior plus some toys - delivery with luck will be July 2013

I also found this to be an issue during the first week of owning my Q5.
I read about this on another forum ("dumbo" mirrors). One suggestion was to raise the seat (which seemed to help).
However after a few weeks I must have gotten use to it (my brain has adapted) and now I feel quite confident and no longer feel that it is an issue.

Other vehicles also have this issue (Toyota Landcruiser) -

      I'm green with envy

I purchased a Q5 3.0T in December because I couldn't wait any longer for the TDI. I also didn't know the US-spec SQ5 was coming soon.

Of course, you should all be aware that the US is getting the 3.0 V6 TDI in the third quarter of this year. Pricing was released a week ago, with the TDI about $2K more than the 3.0 gas. Premium Plus is the base equipment level, with a couple of things made standard on the PP level (gas and diesel).

My local dealer has told me they have already pre-sold a number of the early shipment. I'm not committing until I see the exact equipment and pricing for my desired level. Since it's now the end of June, shouldn't have to wait too much longer...

I drove a TDI today. What a slick vehicle. You barely have to put your foot into it to run right up on triple digits. And 31MPG highway at that?

This is on the list to replace the Rabbit when the S3 is paid for.

Egad. Drove the Q5 TDI today. I am completely sold on diesel now. The torque comes on and it just keeps pulling. This thing is wonderful. Will Americans buy it?

And, as someone pointed out, the mirrors do seem a tad on the large size. Why bigger that Treg mirrors?

The mirror on Q5 came from Q7 so it was originally designed for a larger and longer car. Parts bin sharing cost containment.

what are the fuel stats on this car, a dealer 100km away has a few, but audi.ca still has no info page for them .

I seem to recall highway estimate of 31 mpg. My 10 minute or so test drive showed 23.5 on the MFI after MUCH throttle mashing. If I had to drive 100 km to drive one I would.

Audi of Canada finally posted the figures. they look pretty damn good, not far off of our GLI consumption figures.

9L/100 k in the city, 6.4 in the highway.
