Thread: Does this affect the differential?

  1. 09-24-2012 07:28 PM #1
    The situation:
I currently am riding on 3 17" mags and 1 16" spare on winter tire (front driver side)

    The question:
Will this damage the differential? havibg different sizes of wheels

    Additional Info:
I did it because the missing mag cracked in 4 places from a pothole and is being repaired. its been only 4 days that I am riding this way.

i am not sure about your car; i am new to the syncro or quattro idea myself.
but in the passat owners manual i haVE for a syncro; it has a separeate owner's manual for syncro only cars.
in there it states the syncro spare tire size is different to a fwd spare tire size.
so a syncro or awd passat sapre tire fits or is meant only to be used in a syncro or awd passat.

rim size is meaningless. its the tire size that matters

syncro there is almost no room for variance.
haldex and torsen its less of an issue.
