Hey guys I have a mk4 gti with 139xxx on it & a guy called me this morning and offered me a 2000 Audi s4 6-speed for it. The car looks pretty clean but the mileage is really bothering me. How is the reliability on the s4's with high mileage? He says it runs mint & all it has is a miltek exhaust. Am I going to be getting my self into a huge money pit?
Let me know what you guys think!

It depends really, Is the maintenance up to date for the mileage? Does he have receipts from a dealer or legitimate shop? Or does he do his own work? How are the turbos? When were they last replaced? When were the timing belt, water pump, or tensioners last replaced? There are a lot of maintenance factors that come in at that mileage if things aren't up to date. I ran my first B5 S4 to the ground until it hit 205k just doing the usual maintenance on it. Had to replace some things but nothing major and it was up and running again. Point is that motor will go well past 200k with forced induction (KO3's). Theres a lot more I could say but those are just some things to think about.

There are a lot of "known" issues with these cars, but if they've been addressed, it might be a good deal. The expensive ones are the turbos, the clutch, and to a lesser extent the front suspension arms/links, steering rack and the rear wheel bearings. Has the timing belt service been done recently along with water pump and idler? Has it been chipped? What is its service history?

With care these can go a lot more miles, but a lot of them have been run hard & put away wet. So a knowledge of the owner's driving habits would be helpful, as well as service records for the car. I think it might be a good deal as long as nothing major is about to go boom.

**** it! Trade trade trade!!! The parts alone are worth more. You can fix most the problems pretty easily.

My dad daily drives a b5 s4 with 237k on the clock. Only thing he has had to replace in the pass 2 years is part of the suspension (cant remember what exactly). Drives great. He wouldnt trade it for anything. Get that S4!!!!
