On at least one point the refs caved, so I'm not sure to what he is referring...

Green Bay wasn't the only team on the field to get screwed by questionable calls on Monday.![]()
The only reason the last play happened is because GB was allowed to continue their scoring drive by that phantom PI call.
Regardless, I'm thrilled that the real refs are coming back.

oh we all know it's Goodell caving, the bottom line is Goodell has to give the refs more than he is now, which up to this point was NOTHING, Goodell dug his heels in, and now his product is suffering, and we can thank the replacement refs, any concessions the refs gave, they didn't have to and shouldn't have.
The NFL brand IS Roger Goodell. I liked him when he came in, but he's botched so many things since he's become commissioner. Tags was too soft, and Goodell is too much of a hardliner at times.
Here's some of your classier Green Bay fans tweeting Tate:

At least this gaffe wasn't useless as it's brought back the refs.

I second that emotion.

Goodell works for the owners of the NFL teams. He's an employee. And like any good employee, he does what the owners tell him to do. From what I've read and heard, all the refs wanted was the same contract they had last year and they got a 4% pay raise, plus their previous compensation remained the same.
NFL caved after their image was being tarnished and their product was becoming the butt of jokes. The NFL owners made a mistake by hiring officials that couldn't get real jobs.

When reached for comment, several of the replacement referees also expressed their excitement to return to officiating at high school and junior college games where they get bitched at by real fans instead of “drunk corporate pricks in $900 seats.”![]()

Caved.
Both sides got what they wanted.

You think the MNF debacle only put pressure on the league, and not the refs as well?
What was going on was EXTREMELY detrimental to the NFL as a brand. To prolong that kind of league ruining circus, would have damaged the NFL as a whole even more than it had already... Goodell, the owners, the players, and yes, the refs and their union would all suffer the repercussions.
