Thread: '79 ecodiesel...

So I plan on swapping a 1991 eco diesel motor into a '79 diesel bunny.
I'm wondering if I should keep the 4 speed trans or swap it out with the eco trans.

What do you think? I'm still searching for other links comparing the two trannies...

if its a GC 4 spd, then its basically junk..

if its a GP, GY, GL, or 4A, then its actually a decent trans..

the AVX out of the eco-diesel is not very good for mileage either..

if you have a GC 4 spd, then i wouldnt use either trans.. i would source an ACN, AON, ACL, or AOP out of an 85-88 golf/jetta (not a GTI or GLI)

the AVX (eco trans) has a 4.25:1 final drive.. so no matter what 5th gear it has, its got close ratios none the less..

the GC trans also has super short gears, and is no good for diesel economy..

the ACN is PERFECT for a diesel tho.. kinda a shame they never came factory behind a diesel..

ive got an ACN behind my TD in my mk2 Jetta, and i LOVE it..
