What vehicle are you in? What are the roads like? How long is it? Twisty curvy fun desolate roads or congested bumper to bumper traffic at 4:30 in the morning? Or do you have the luxury of working from home like myself? Map it out on mapquest lets see who here actually has the best commute to work.

When I lived in PA, My comute started at around 4:20, was 45 minutes long, and for the most part looked like this, except dark out.

and this was the full commute. Don't miss it at all.

~ 20 mins, 3/4 of it is on a rather congested interstate but nothing crazy until the ride home. the rest of it is a 2-lane winding main road to the Long Island Sound - where i park @ my office across from the beach. eat it.

My wife has a fun commute, only a few miles but a quick few miles.

    Without the night speeds now.
    And soon to be

    Mine is typical Austin traffic.

14 miles. Depending on what time I leave, it either takes 30 minutes or an hour.

10 mins in the morning, about 5.5 miles. Afternoon in rush hour, 20-45 mins depending on traffic. 75% highway.

I used to commute 40 miles each way. This was when my SVT Focus was in it's "prime" and it was curvy back roads the whole way. I LOVED driving to and from work every day. Now I've got a 4 mile commute on crappy half city roads and see nothing but scrap yards the whole way

Leave house, 4 stop lights in town, usually green, or very short red
Open rural highway, 26 miles, 24 minutes. See 4-5 cars total
Turn on to slightly more populated rural highway, 17 miles, 18 minutes. See maybe 20 cars
Wait 5 minutes to get onto work property, another 5 to get to building

Basically, set cruise, take nap. Laugh at traffic report on radio.

I guess I won't be winning this one:

Vancouver may no longer be eligible for inclusion among the world's top 10 best places to live. But it can claim one distinction: It has the worst traffic congestion in Canada — and the second worst in North America, with only car-mad Los Angeles leaving it in its rear mirror.

My old commute was 50kms (30 miles) thru awesome back-roads (or a hop on the express highway, and fly along at about 80-90mph). I miss being able to wring out the car on the daily! However, I can still take those roads when I go visit my parents, so once a week or so = not too shabby at all.

Right now I'm about 10-15 mins from work, not a great deal of traffic... Kind of hum-drum, but never stressed out. It's nice to live in the town you work in.

This for 30 km, plus about 15km of city driving, each way, two days a week.

I have a pretty nice 4.5 mile, 10 minute commute. But that's actually not the "best commute" I've ever had. Length of time be damned, this commute through Angeles National Forest was the best commute I ever enjoyed for the ~3 month period it lasted.

7 miles via Southeast Expressway (thunderdome) in Boston.

    Morning at 5:30am: 12 minutes
Afternoon at 3:30: Average 35 minutes.

Worst of all time: 6 hrs 30 minutes. 12/10/05 Surprise blizzard gridlock

Less than two miles and no traffic. Not the best but it is hard to beat without working from home.

  31. 09-26-2012 02:17 PM #31
I drive roughly 30 miles on a canyon road that has a 70 mph speed limit. Great scenery, plenty of passing zones, fast driving. Fun stuff. Apparently it's the most deadliest road around here in the winter though. Awd plus snow tires should deal with that.

  32. 09-26-2012 02:21 PM #32
Option #1 - 57 miles of mostly wooded sweeping turns until Worcester of course...then it's

Takes about an hour and 45 minutes realistically.

Option #2 - 73 miles of two lane interstate type road. Only takes about 1:15 though.

I take Option #1 as often as I can. Drive a 2008 Passat Wagon with 2.0T/6spd manual.

Reverse commute (no traffic) 20 minutes out of a tiny town and across a rural highway through the Green Mountains.
