To be honest, the shape of the bodies of the MkIII and MkIV are pretty much the same.
, best sounding motor,I love when dubbers use this argument but then turn around and bash Hondas for being nothing but noisy. GTIs aren't all that fast, either, and they do make a lot of noise. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Harlequin is not a color, nor was it the best. In fact, it was probably one of the dumbest things any automaker has done as a color option.colors,
Base, 1.8T, GTI, and what else? VR6? Interior options? LOLWUT.options available at the time,
It's not a Scion, you can't "option it out" to your hearts content.
VWs don't have style, sorry.STYLE...MK3 has it for me.

mk3's have a lot of style. In terms of also being well equipped, look at a fully loaded 1997 gti vr6, vs say a honda prelude, and tell me again that they didnt come well equipped.Colors were also far better, and more choices than hond'as offerings, so i dont want to turn this into a pissing match between honda and vw, just saying.

Your opinion aint fact, silly. I doubt you bursted any bubbles c4 a6.
My opinion- Small bumper A2(as long as it's not too low and doesn't have ugly single rounds or wheels which are too big).

your all wrong on this. i was a previous honda owner. owned a eg bubble, sedan and vw are just so much better built then any of those. my mk3 just feels soo much stiffer and well balance. just doesnt flex like hondas do. doesnt feel like it going to fall apart. omg and when my Vr roars i wet my pants. after i switch a honda just sounds like a stupid chihuahua dog that just barks and barks and doesnt shut up. i can even count how many hondas ive embarrased (and just minor mods). i love when i go to meets and the honda guys just stare me down. and when i had my honda it would just be like. "oh its just another honda". oh and once Vw started the stanced look. stretched tires wide rims. slammed. here comes honda owners doing the same.

Mine's the MK2 16v, in Montana Green. One of the best handling FWD platforms ever made IMO, great engine that happily revs to 7k+, great gearbox, great BBS alloys, wide tires from the factory (195's, I believe), great interior with the Recaro buckets, nice and supportive. Great for driving spiritedly. Great gauge panel with everything that you'd expect in a sporty car. 160mph speedo, 8k RPM tach.. Ah, I love MK2's. Great body lines. Wonderful fender flares.
PS: How's that VWMS manifold and that 700 dollar carbon hatch? Fitment issues/pros/cons/pictures would be cool.

This thread is all over the place!
Mk1- OG. It defined the GTI and no one can argue it.
My favourite GTI is the Mk2 (16V). Of course you may say that I'm biased because I own one, but what's not to love?! Wider flares, stock recaro seats, infamous red striping, 2-piece bbs wheels, 16v badging everywhere, 4-light grille with fog lights, and a whole lot of comfortable bells and whistles (minus the cupholders...) It's light, fun, easy to work on, and it's got that driver to car connection that gens like the the mk4 don't have. Also, the 16v was a great contender in its days versus the honda crx and mazda I believe.
The mk3 can also be a great gti if tastefully modified and maintained. I never got one simply because of the rust, wiring issues, and lack of good engine choice. But I have seen many great looking mk3's. Although they do look "fatter", the body lines make it to be a more modern mk2 which as I've stated, can look great, especially with the euro bumpers and flares.
In summary, a Mk3 needs more work to look good, or you can buy a mk2 and be happy.
Mk4- Similar to the mk3, but fatter, with less driver connection. Engine choice and is way better though, especially the 03+ 1.8T with the 6 Speed Transmission. 20th AE was my favourite, especially since they brought back the recaros (not as good looking as the mk2 recaros though).
Mk5- Beautiful. Took a little while to get used to, but love it. The FSI sounds like a nightmare, but they made things right with the TSI. What's in a Mk5 you ask? 16V, with a turbo on it. Mk5 to me represents VW getting back on track with the GTI. The interior got revamped, and reminds me of the comfort/sportyness that the mk2 recaros have. Options are nice too, leather or jacky cloth, well made steering wheel and cluster, I think they got it right with the Mk5 and continued to progress after that.
Mk6- Took a little while to get used to like the Mk5, but love it even more! All the bugs have been ironed out and the facelift is looks more aggressive.
* Also noticed that there are alot of Mk6's on the roads these days *
Mk7- Can't wait to get a better job so that I can buy one! I see nothing wrong with it, well done VW! They finally realized that they needed to squeeze more power out of it in order to continue to compete.

MK6. It looks the sharpest inside and out, has a decent amount of power and would I be right in assuming it's more reliable than previous gens?
Being completely serious, the MK3 is the least attractive of them all.
Thoughts expressed are those of the poster and not those of some long dead guy who I choose to speak for me.

Having owned mk1,mk4,and mk5 mk1 without a doubt.
The other two were good cars, and I love driving my mk5 every day but it just doesn't compare.
