It amassed itself because you needed it there.

      Manual? Glove box.
      Registration? Glove box.
      Random odds-and-ends? Glove box.

In my Mk3, the manual had to lay under the seat and the registration was always crumpled up in the tiny armrest storage compartment.

For me its Mk1. The way they handle and the feedback you get from the road isnt like anything ive ever driven. Mk2 is a close second. The 2l 16v is one of my favorite motors ever. I dont particularly dislike mk3s but for me, they are the most unnattractive and kind of boring.

You must have had an early MK3, 94/95.

The late MK3's had a lower glovebox that would fit all that you listed just fine.

Sure, but by popularity contest I mean, people vote for what they own. Or the favorite of what they owned. And the MK4 was very very popular, purely from a numbers standpoint. Thus the high numbers in the poll.

Actually the people have chosen the Mk2. Stop being in denial.

All i know. And i will say it again.

Mkv was a big big game changer compared to the other models.

It should definitely be up more on the rankings. i feel this is more of like which gti looks best thread than which is the better gti.

From mk4-5 it was basically like going into an audi. It offered the most. Best interior. Great powerful engine. Etc.

I sense alot of hate for the game changing model.

      I think '93'-'96 had no glove box. I had a '94 and a '95. I remember my first Mk3-mit-glove-box experience being a friend's '97 Sequoia Green VR6 GTI.

You asked for the best GTI, not the best modded-stanced-coilovered-seam-welded-roll-caged-turboed GTI.

This is all wrong. The Mk5 is more like the 996 to me. Sure it had tons of mechanical improvements and ended up being a far more modern, better performing, more "reliable" car than its predecessor.

Yet, despite all of this they were both fuggin' hideous, and needed a facelift after a few years.
