The roof antenna does have an amplifier, and it does need to be properly grounded, but just bolting it in should accomplish that. Check with a meter to make sure it's getting 12v when the radio is on.

I'v just had some body work done and the roof mounted antenna was removed. Now I have really poor AM reseption only FM works fine. Does the antenna need to be grounded to the body? It was working fine before.
