Thread: Who runs K04's? Good, bad?

  1. 09-27-2012 04:15 PM #1
    Hey guys,
What was your experience when you switched from a K03 to a K04? What other parts were you using as well? Were there any problems, or was it a direct fit?
I'm asking because my plan with my MK5 was to go with K04, downpipe, and intake. Then obviously a tune. But who tune's for K04's?
I'm seeing if my plan is worth it, that's really all.
    -Thanks!

yo bro.. go to goapr.com and look at the s3 k04 kit they sell.. comes with everything u need.. and yes its a direct fit.. plumbing and such will have to be changed along with injectors.. but like i said.. most tuning companies sell full kits with everything u need including software. awe tuning.. unitronic tuning.. apr tuning.. giac tuning.. revo tuning.. all sell kits i believe. but u should stg 2 ur car and get used to it first.. its reletivly cheap and very fun.

Yeah I saw all those kits, APR's looks the best. But on a TSI, I thought you didn't have to upgrade any of the fueling? I was just looking at some simple and fun extra HP. I figured a K04, downpipe, and K04 tune would do the trick. Don't really need 366HP lol.

If you want over 300hp with a powerband that doesn't go limp at 5k rpm, get a K04. If you're cool with 270hp and good low-mid range punch only, just do stg2 on your K03.

Is that like buying a pant at the Gap? You must be the person to go to when I'm looking for a scissor.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with 300HP that doesn't crap out early, the super amount of torque is nice for daily driving but get's kind of annoying when doing everything else . Is 300HP achievable with just a K04, downpipe, intake, and tune? That's really my point of this thread, I should of made that more clearer.

I dont see the point of spending over $3,000 + for a complete KO4 kit when you can get a GT turbo and get more power for almost same amount, guess it depends on the person hehe.

I'm not trying to buy a K04 kit, I'm just trying to buy the K04 turbo for $900.

Good luck with that, to my understanding you need bigger injectors and hpfp and some other internals to keep up with the power of the ko4, but thats for FSI, maybe in your case TSI you dont need those stuff.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to figure out lol I know the FSI's you need the extra fuel support, but I think Unitronics has a 400HP TSI running stock fuel support.

i am willing to bet you will get better answers by heading over to the technical forums. If i were you that's where i would look, give it a shot.

That $3k is for EVERYTHING. Please direct me to a COMPLETE kit that includes the GT30, that doesn't cost twice as much...don't forget the upgrade internals...

And again, everybody on the internet is always just looking for huge numbers and internet glory. 300whp in a FWD car is plenty and already overkill. Not to mention the shift in powerband. I like the low powerband of the K03, minus running out of breath up top...the K04 shifts it up slightly, and a larger turbo would even more. Try driving one with a huge turbo and see how practical it is for everyday driving.

It's probably going to run you more than that, but not $3k. A lot of these places were having sales a month ago for a K04 INSTALLED on a TSI for ~2k IIRC. And yes, in your case, you don't need the fuel support (hpfp), you're good to go.

You won't need internals depending on how much power you push with the gt30. I believe you're fine until you start pushing passed 400

    Good thread.

People running BT setups, did you have to do anything to reinforce your head for the added power? Bigger studs, head bolts, changing compression rates, retarding the timing?

I've wanted to go big turbo but am a bit apprehensive to slap it on my stock head as I'm unfamiliar with how much an FSI can really hold...

    Any input?

(Obviously tech forums might give a better answer, but the traffic in here is heavier.)
