i dont know how much different the mk4 is from the 5 but i know with the 5 if this is happenning it can be coded away with vagcom. saw it on the ross tech site.
search around their wiki stuff and see.

i have a 2004 jetta tdi with a speedo reading wrong all the time
its like the speedo is sticking from 0 to 80 because it pauses then move
i have a triptronic transmission n would like to start fixing this problem asap
i use my gps for the seep reading
is there a cable or sensor some where that needs replacing?
