      electrical gremlins

FIRST try checking to see if there is anything in your weatherstrip there is a safety feature that senses if anything is in there and it rolls down. Most power window cars have this. And if there isn't anything in there its probably this relay/switch that has gone bad.

It could also be something to do with the switches in the passenger door.
could also be another switch gone off tricking the door into thinking its open.

try disconnecting the window switch on passenger side only use the driver side controls and see if that does anything.

if you have a voltmeter you can check.

      child safety lock harness
      passenger/driver window switches and harness
door close sensor inside door jam or door itself.
      check regulator(can cause this sometimes.

It can be a number of things. Something as simple as a bad engine re flash can goof up your computer and roll down your windows randomly/turn on wipers randomly.

I would suggest going to town with a voltmeter seeing what is getting power when it shouldn't be and seeing what isn't getting power when it should.

      wish you luck

I wonder if a relay could cause this kind of issue?

There are No sensors in the weathersrtipping
its a cabrio it doesn't have child safety locks

MK3s have a common fail area in the wires that go from the door to the body of the car.
if you open the.door you can see an accordian looking rubber boot that the wires run through.
Pull back the rubber boot and check the wires inside it for broken or frayed wireing, then get out a multimeter and check for continuity. Fix any broken wires by soldering app. 1 inch of new wire in and heat shrinking.

Did I state that there were sensors in the weather strips? Nope... Its a convertible. Don't be so salty, I was just stating things that usually cause this. IF there is a stick or dirt built up or something in the weather strip, The motor won't force itself up all the way, It will go up. Stop and go back down. I've seen cars do this many a time.

Dome light staying on, but it is dim not bright when you open the door or turn it on, also the alarm is turning on by itself, I replaced the alarm module behind the lightswitch,it acted normal for a couple of hours and then it started acting up again, it's driving me crazy!

Have you taken an ohm meter and checked for continuity or shorts in your door jamb wiring yet, it is the most common failure area for the electrical gremlins with the alarm on the MK3 chasis cars.
the least you should do is a visual inspection of this area.
Your dome light issue is probably a failed door switch which will also cause an alarm to not set properly and ocaisonally set the alarm off for no reason. The alarm module is rarely the issue.

I took off the end of the black rubber flex protector between the door and pillar and all the wires seemed to be fine, how do I check the continuity? I went and ordered 2 new door jamb switches, they only cost about $8 shipped I thought they would be ore expensive.thanks for the reply

      Testing for continuity.

If the wires in the door jamb are good and there are no shorts than your window issue is probably your door lock switch in your lock mechanism.
Can you lock /unlock the doors with the key in the driver's door?
Can you roll your windows up and down from the key in the driver's door?

The key operates the locks and the windows from both doors, haven't really had an issue with that, this is driving me crazy! Every time I open the door the alarm goes off,the alarm light flashes even when I am driving and when the alarm isn't turned on,anybody else have this problem?

Hope this helps out for somebody, I think I resolved my issue with the window going up and down on its on, I opened the door all the way up and unscrewed the flexible accordion rubber that the wires are in,just turn the hard black nut looking thing that the rubber is hooked to,turn it to the left just a bit and the whole thing will be able to detach, I sprayed some electrical cleaner on both sides and blew them out with compressed air, let them dry for a bit and reattached them and its been 3 or 4 days and no issue, thank good it was driving me nuts the window going down on its own all the time, hope this works for other people also!

I replaced the the 2 door jamb switches for less than 8 dollars shipped from rockauto,my dome light stays off and my alarm dosent go off on its own anymore, that was really driving me crazy, I'm sure other guys out there know what I'm talking about! I tried replacing the alarm module first, that didn't fix the issue turns out it was those dirty little switches!
