I'm running the Magnaflow Sport. It is loud, but I only use the .:R for weekend fun, so it fits the bill. The Magnaflow does drone at certain RPM's, which I could see getting slightly annoying if I was dailying the car. That being said, I love the tone, volume, and the tips add a lot to the rear view.

These exhaust threads pop up every so often. General consensus seems to usually put the Borla on top as the overall winner for those purchasing a new cat back system, with the Tampa Mod taking the cake for those looking to retain the stock system/look.

Whatever route you decide to go, the VR sounds awesome! Enjoy it!

I drove a MkV R32 this summer that had a Forge system on it that sounded pretty sweet... with no drone.

    You might search that out.

Installed Borla CBE yesterday, initial thoughts:

This thing is pretty loud... definitely louder and much more present than the stock exhaust.
There is drone at low RPMs - around 2k, and that drone is much more pronounced than I expected.
Overall, louder than seen in videos or expected from comments.. very bass-y and wookie-ish without any hint of metallic notes or tinny-ness.

With that said, I love the thing, and I really couldn't imagine another exhaust system. Assuming that everything is set up properly (95% sure that it is) - this is definitely a loud and very noticable modification. First thing I thought is that I couldn't imagine driving around with a non-res system for the next 130k miles (but how awesome they must sound!)

The whole thing caught me off guard a bit as I have never heard an R32 with an aftermarket exhaust in person. Very cool, no comments on performance improvements can be made yet.

If your gas cap light comes on even if you think you tightened the cap, try pulling on the cap as you tighten it. Worked for me.

So Borla sounds to fit my interest then

VWVortex buds thanx for pointing me in the right direction
Get a milltek resonated system. I had Borla originally and needed more loud. Love my non-resonated milltek.

If you intend on going full exhaust, i.e. headers, it's nice to have a system that mates right up.

Milltek makes headers, high flow cats (or test pipe) and a cat-back, all for our cars.
    Holy Milltek.

I've got custom Magnaflow 2.5" with ported exhaust manifolds and 2.25" down pipes and hfc's. I like the sound, loud but not too bad on the road.

That sounds good Sn0wMan, what brand of downpipes?

I have a Borla and just bought the Forge/Scorpion downpipes (2.5"), looking at some mil.spec race cats to weld in, living in California there aren't so many cat options. The Forge downpipes should mate up perfectly since its 2.5 to 2.5.

Does the Milltek sound different IRL than on videos? From the videos it just sounds like a louder + higher pitched stock exhaust?

Isn't that all most cat-backs do? Just increase the sound and change the pitch of the exhaust note?

i.e. Borla/Magnaflow tend to have a throatier, deeper tone.

I went from Borla to Milltek non-res and prefer the milltek non-res 100 times over. It's all subjective, like most things.

I wonder if there is any way to get the Milltek to sound deeper. I like the idea of upgrading to a full system.

The resonated is deeper than stock. Too silent for some. I think it is loud enough ( neighbour friendly)

I know but isn't the dp a 2.5 twice into 3 inch to mate up with the cb? Not trying to argue but that is what I would have expected.

it's dual 2.5" downpipes to the single 2.5" which will connect to the OEM cat back. The cat back starts as 2.5" so it can mate to the stock or Forge downpipes then after the first muffler it goes to 3", if you got the version that's not resonated, then it goes from 2.5 and then has a small section that bumps up to 3".

This seems to be the most affordable option at the moment $767 for downpipes and cat section with no cats, then have your choice of cats tig welded in. I would have preferred to 2.25, but the 2.5" shouldn't hurt things.

I made them with mandrel bent piping and flex tube, wasnt easy, I bought some 2.25" mandrel bend U turns, cut them up and pieced them together, welded. I didn't take any pics cause I didn't want to get hated on for my not so pretty welding haha even though it didn't look too bad IMO. Next time I have the intake off I'll snap a couple pics.

Not hating or anything, maybe it was camera angle but that launch seemed kinda slow. But I guess I've never seen my car launch, again not hating at all, if I'm hating it cause I don't have UG . Sounded great btw!

Thanx to all of you for your help. I purchased the Borla exhaust. had it now for a few days. i do enjoy the exhaust note. Drone is minor under 3k RPM. the R32 also pulls more on higher Revs. feels good, sounds good, looks good. Thanx all

Good choice! I am almost adapted to mine after putting about 400 miles of driving in this week. No drone at highway speed, always present, never obnoxious - but I do wish that it was a bit louder under WOT and past 4.5k rpms. I feel like my setup (Forge BFE + Borla) provides the perfect balance of intake/engine/exhaust across the entire RPM range but at the same time I find myself wishing I could tolerate a louder or barky-er system for that effect.

I'll always be jealous of those who can sport/tolerate the Milltek non-res.

I have a milltek on my s4 and it's a great system. On my R I have the Borla. The Borla is a different beast when it is warmed up. It turns a lot of heads. It also has drone but not as annoying like some others. If you are young and want noise others would be an option. The borla has a nice deep echo sound when it's warm. It's loud, trust me. Once its warm and worn in its the best in my opinion.

This is my custom made system done by a franchise called Longlife in the UK. Not sure if they have franchises in the US, but I do think custom is the way to go. The main aftermarket choice in the UK is Milltek, but I wanted something with a deeper growl but for the same cost as the Milltek.
