I'm stuck, I cannot decide on which engine to put in my rail, I want to choose once and stick with that engine for years to come,
It will be going through a 2 speed glide and has to be a VAG engine to race in the class I run in.

    R32 ?
    2.0L Tfsi ?
    20v ?
    Vr6 ?
    W8 ?

The plan is to put a stockish motor in to begin with, run it on standalone with race fuel and the nitrous is available

    A inline 5 wouldn't fit

    50 views but no input

Did I forget to say which would you use?

i myself am partial to the 20v 1.8T.

but Eserini did up a VR6T rail.

    7.1x or so?

also, there is a local (to me anyways) guy here that runs a turbo VR6 in the back of a caddy with a 'Glide.... its cool as hell, too.

I've already got an autocraft that's ran 7.97 but its in need of some work, it's unreliable and very costly compared to a newer engine

With the power Kevin has made on stock vr6 long blocks I think its a no brainer.

At least from a budget perspective.

autocraft was state of the art two decades ago, still nice stuff to have

Exactly, but the Pauter is sooo expensive, compared to what you can get from a water cooled engine.

I like the idea of vr6 cause you can pick up engines for peanuts, but the r32 will give me greater power and can go to 3.6 in the long term, but might have a sponsor if I go TFSI route.

Honestly, it comes down to budget and desired power output. What are your goals?

Goals long term is to take the rail as far as I can, it's tagged to 6.50 and I've got time to chase it.

As for budget, I would like to be out ASAP I've only got $10k ATM aside but next year I'm supposed to be having a holiday year with the family so if I look to the latter part of 2013 maybe double.

I would like to see it in the 8's consistently for a while and go for championship.

When it ran the 7.97 the autocraft was putting out about 740hp.

For a stockish motor, cheapest, and quick and dirty, 12v VR6 ftw.

Rod bolts, head studs, spacer gasket, cams, valve springs = 700 wheel HP all day on pump E85.
    With drop-in JEs = 750++ all day.

1.8t is a close second, JE drop-ins and choce of rods, new valve springs and exhaust valves, shelf cams = 750++ all day.

Hell, we made 700++ out of a 16v too haha. Small turbo, etc.

Search Backyard Bandit for comparison info for a 4G63 powered dragster (6 seconds).

I'd really like to be involved with this project btw. Feel free to send over your info, and info on the aircooled dragster as well.
