    2013 Tiguan SE 4Motion

Well, thanks to this forum and a few test drives I took delivery on my new Tiguan SE 4MO. I traded my 2010 Jetta and I'm not missing it at all. I just discovered that the rear seats adjust for and aft and the seatbacks tilt too. A pleasant surprise! The RCD-510 Premium radio is huge improvement over the similar unit in my Jetta. It receives HD-FM stations and streams bluetooth from my HTC-EVO phone which my Jetta's unit would not do. I tried this out last night using my phone's nav. feature and I love it. Syncing my phone up to the new Tig was also a snap. Took about one minute. Headlights, seating position, dual climate controls are all superior as well as the generous cargo area. The sandstone (beige) interior is also a huge relief vs. the Titan black I had before. Just a personal preference but it just works better for me and makes the interior seem more spacious. Since I did not get the sunroof, there are several storage bins along the center of the roof which I know I'll be using a lot.

The transmission shifts are smooth and seamless and moving to S mode of course kicks things up a notch. Being a bit OCD about fuel economy, I reset the avg. mpg's entering the hwy on a 60 mile trip running about 65mph. To my pleasant surprise the Tig got 32mpg one way and 28 coming back. For a new car, I was very impressed and hope to see these numbers come up even more. My former 2008 Rabbit 2.5 was lucky to do this well on a good day and weighed 600lbs less!

I'm sure there are many more features yet to be discovered and so far I'm a happy owner.

2012 Tiguan SEL w/boost gauge and Scangauge

Are those mpg figures with or w/o the A?C on ? I have a 2012 SEL (not 4MO) and, with the A/C on most of the time, I'm lucky to get 23 mpg on the highway (of course here in SoCal, average highway speeds may be a ..err...tad faster). AND - I use a scangauge ii to monitor all my mileage stats in real time, trying to maximize it.

I've got the auto-climate controls, so can't say for sure if AC was running. IMO, the AC does not make too much difference at least not on my previous Dubs.

I just went through my first tank of gas. 390 miles, 14.1 gallons=27.6 mpg. This was about 70% highway with occasional romps on the on-ramps. I know this is not typical but I'm very pleased so far. One thing I found out is that the Conti Pro Contact, all-season tires are "low rolling resistance" which may have a slight advantage. Can anyone tell me how these perform in the snow?

Not the best way to break in your engine. You really don't want to concentrate on your MPG just yet, instead you really need to vary those RPMs to seat your seals to prevent any chance of oil consumption in the future. make sure that your engine is at the operating temperature before you go high on RPMs. Other than that congratulations on your excellent purchase!

I have a 2013 Tiguan and average 27.5-29.7 on the Hwy with the AC on. I drive mine the same way I have driven my previous 4 new VW's......as if I have had it for months. All the seals have been seated at the factory when the engine is run for quite awhile. I have never had an issue with oil consumption. I don't abuse my car but I also don't baby it. I drive it as it was intended.

07MR: My driving habits are similar to yours and haven't had any oil consumption issues with any previous VWs. I just finished a 1500 mile road trip and barely managed 25mpg. Keep in mind this was through WY and MT with wind and driving 75-80mph and carrying 200 lbs of gear. As soon as I got back into CO traffic, speeds dropped along with the wind and I was back up to a consistent 30mpg. Also checked the oil this eve when I got home and it was right up near the top mark right where it should be. What a relief!

OK, here's yet another little feature I was excited to discover last night. The rear headrests fold forward. Simply press the button on the side and pull forward for better rearward vision. Yeah, I know you just pull them completely out but I'm enjoying the fold feature. I would have never realized this if I had not read the manual .

I love the fold flat head rest in the back. I always put them down so I my rear view mirror is unimpeded. I belive they fold down so its easier to fold the rear seats flat for hauling. Its a nice feature that shows some thought was put into the end-user experience.
