When I was your age, we had to EARN and WORK for the things we wanted in life. We weren't handed $40k brand new vehicles to go to high school in and show-off and tell the other kids how much better we were. My first car ever, was a 1980 Ford LTD, and it was my grandparents car that I paid them $300 for.

That's the problem with society and the generation these days... everyone thinks they shouldn't have to do ANYTHING, but get EVERYTHING handed to them for free. That's why you have people who should have never been given the opportunity to buy a house they couldn't afford, sitting in these houses not paying a DIME, and the banks are PAYING them to stay in the house for FREE as long as they don't wreck it! Meanwhile, joe blow down the block has been responsible and paying double payments on his mortgage, yet the bank won't let him refinance for today's "low rates" nor can he sell his house, because Freddy Foreclosure sittining in his house for free is driving down the value of his home and everyone eles's home in the neighborhood.

Ugh... off topic, but this kind of crap disgusts me. Let's teach our kids how they can get everything for free so long as they continue to do nothing. And meanwhile... let's keep O'Bama in as president since "Social Programs" are FAR more important than the economy, and we can do more bailouts for everyone while lowering the dollar to a worthless currency, and we can send illegal immigrants to universities for free while "white" kids have to pay full price, etc.

Ordinarilly i would agree with you. However, i do not find a problem getting my children (when i have them) a quality vehicle that is safe, durrable, will last them a while and "upgrade proof" (that is to say, one that fills most needs for a vehicle for the forseable future). safety is a must, so i would never put my child in a "beater" either. besides, who is to say he was "pamperred" or treated like a spoiled kid? lets say his parents are well off, and that he was treated like every other kid. but for graduation they wanted to send him off strong!

Congrats on the car. It looks real nice.

I think people should stop giving him a hard time. So what if he has a sweet ride at 16 and you didn't? I don't start complaining when I see a rich Sheikhs son here in Dubai driving ONE of his Lamborghinis at 18!

Live and let live! He isn't your kid.

Not sure why everyone feel entitled to comment on this poor kid's age or background. We are all here to talk about our passion and love for the CC and all the MOD that go alone with. Welcome and congratulations on YOUR new CC.

That car is sweet. Being 22 and already graduated from college, I can understand his parents move. My father told me if I got a full ride anywhere that I could choose any car under $60K to take to school with me. If not, I had to help pay. Did I get a full ride anywhere? Hello no. I kept my sweet 16 ride "93 chevy s10" and went to a state school and paid my ass through it.

Please don't even think about plasti-dipping your $40,000 car.

Thanks for sharing your story. And haha the thought of plasti-dipping has never crossed my mind. I would be temped to do it on a white car but since mines is black, I would like to keep the chrome as it adds a really nice touch to the car. I am planning on painting the horizontal grill grates on the front though.

Hey thanks a lot buddy. You have a very nice car too. I was actually looking at a MK6 autobahn with automatic tranny and I loved the car. My favorite part of that car is the steering wheel. I Absolutely LOVE that steering wheel. If I remember correctly it had a flat bottom with red stitching and the GTI logo in the center. That combined with the red accented grill and red painted brake calipers made me fall in love with the GTI. Congrats on your car.

Why would you perform a " cheap" mod as a suitcase release when you have to spend a lot to get it back to stock when you turn it back in? And trade in a car for 1/2 the price for a lease? Are you kiddin'? I smell BS

Not really.I just heard from other people online and some of my friends, it would cost around $30-80 to remove it and then another $30-80 to put it back in. I'm not 100% sure but I could use that as a reference on how much it would actually cost. And no BS here, my parents traded in their old car and we got around $20000 for it. We are actually not paying any more than $100 a month for the car and I do plan on buying the car at the end of the lease if I still like the car, and looking at how much I love the car now, I'm pretty sure that's going to be the way to go.

No one in his right mind puts down 20k for a lease. What happens if you total it? And why to finance it from the star? Lease ... 40k new and worth after 4 years maybe 20k ....

Hey Grajjie, be proud of your age and your parents. They lived the american dream and no one should chastise anyone for reaping the benefits. By your post it sounds like you deserve it, you made your parents proud and as a new dad myself I can tell you that when my daughter gets a scholarship I will reward her however I want according to my financial situation at the time. Doesn't matter how much it cost them, it's irrelevant. Now if you tell me they robbed a bank or murdered for it I would say otherwise.
Most people that come to this country (like my mom and dad did) are looking for a better life and they should never be put down for succeeding and buying you something expensive just cus the guy next to them can't afford it. If so then my parents should have stayed in Cuba and we would all receive 2 cups of rice a month and I would never been given the education and life I had.
There is always going to be a hater, you can't make everyone happy and honestly who gives a **** what anyone thinks about you other than your real friends and family.
Keep up the hard work, thank your parents for all of their hard work and for rewarding you for it, now you have to keep it up so it's not in vain.

Moral: if you can't afford to buy your kid a 40k car then buy him whatever you can afford. If you raised them properly it won't matter to them if it cost $40 or $40k...

Enjoy the new car! Congratulations on the scholarship!

well sticking to the topic, if your laws say 70% , 20% will be way too dark to get away with it, you can get away with lighter percentages of tint anyways because the car is black and the interior is also, i don't know what tint %'s you can buy in NY but 35-50% should be fine as far as the privacy your looking for without drawing too much attention from the police.

on a side note, nice car, congratulations

It's still the same dream. When you come to this country with nothing but the shirt on your back and through your own hard work and perseverance you become financially successful or wealthy you can do whatever the hell you please with your own hard earned cash.
I don't think any less of you if you can't afford the same luxuries as me and I sure don't think less of the guy with the bigger house on the block.
God bless you and the USA

Thanks for your input. 70% is legal in NY and I think the cc comes with 70% from the factory lol. I have looked at some cars with 20% and I figured it would be very easy for me to get caught. I will be considering something like 30-35%. Have been so busy lately that I don't have any time to do mods on the car

I was also motivated to get my car. I got a scholarship for college so this is what my parents got me because they don't have to worry about shelling out $25,000+ a year for college. And why didn't you like the jag? I am a big fan of jaguars especially the new XF and XJ, and the previous generation XF.
Congrats on a scholarship! Yea, don't feel bad man. I had a 1990 Volvo 760 Turbo given to me when I was 16, but it was fun and it got me into turbo cars so it was a good learning too. My parents gave me a Breitling watch for graduation of HS and since my parents always has multiple cars.

I would routinely drive a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 HD loaded when my dad wasn't pulling his race car to the track on the weekends or 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T and when I went off to school I got an 06 Passat 6mt cause I thought it looked better then a GTI at the time.

Some people don't realize just because ones parents buy them stuff doesn't mean we are lazy or ungrateful or don't know what a dollar is worth. I am sure you know because their are many rules involved in keeping your scholarship. So you know what it does cost cause I am sure your parents have made stipulations like scholarship goes byebye you might loose your car. LOL

Related to your questions at the beginning:
    1) I have 28% on my passat all around and I do hope it was darker cause I could go darker in Florida with medical waiver I had but I am moving to DC and I am just keeping it as is.

    2) That is a fairly simple mod to replace the center suitcase muffler with a piece of pipe.

    3) I think you might have to mod the valence where the current muffler tips come out to except dual tips on each side but it is possible I think.

Again Congrats on your scholarship and car! Not all of us get our panties in a wad because how young someone got a certain car.

I will keep my actual opinions to myself on whether kids deserve cars like this or whether Obama should be president!!

Congrats on the scholarship! So wheres the scholarship to?

You also said you play many sports, nice! What do you play!

And what do your parents drive?

For the lease i'm just curious after, what is the buyout on the car? Like 18k? I imagine the money market rate was horrid when these first came out and you seem to have gotten it in sept which was early on.

You say 1k off so im guessing like 42k with tax? and then the lease is around 24k, minus the 20k trade (what was the trade?) coming to 4k financed in the lease over how long? 36 months? which is around the 100 a month. What are the actual numbers?

For my next VW i think i am going to put a large sum down and am curious how you came to your numbers.

For all you nay-sayers I'm not worried about wrecking the car and losing the money. I have done this four times now where i have put money down on a lease and never had a problem.

LOVE it! The car is pretty much perfect for me lol, except for the issues that I posted about in another thread. VR6 engine has plenty of power, 4Motion helped me out on the first day of snow in NYC so far, leather seats with heat/cooling are very comfortable, dynaudio system is superb, and the exterior makes me stare at the car as I am walking away from it.

Wow good choice of your parents giving you the Volvo. I was always a fan of Volvos (not really the new ones but the older were amazing). And it must be nice having a dad who's into racing haha. As for the tints I was originally going to go with 20% but I am leaning towards something lighter like 30%.

I'm getting there lol had to go do something.

Well back to the OP, the scholarship is from an essay competition that I got 3rd place in. I should be getting around 5 grand for it and since I'm looking to go to a state college, that should take a big chunk out of the tuition.

For the sports, I play tennis, swim competitively, and play basketball just for fun (not really good at it )

My parents drive a 2012 BMW X3. Very nice SUV (or what BMW calls a "SAV")

I have to talk to you later about the exact numbers as I forgot what they were. I think I have them written down somewhere though. I do remember that the buyout for the car is something like $22k.
