I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death, but I'm having a difficult time deciding which software to go with. I'm driving a 2012 GTI autobahn with 800 miles. A friend of mine who works for VW as a service technician said to go with APR because the GIAC is too aggressive for an unmodified motor. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

APR has the best support and is no slower than other tuners despite what they might tell you.

    go APR

if you are 2012+ on your GTI I'd wait. I've seen a couple people on here saying their ECU melted with a tune put on it.

Hmmm, wouldnt you think the reseller would have knowledge of this and let me know?

Do you not understand what I'm saying. I'm saying they bought the tune for their car and **** hit the fan on 2012+'s

I have a 2012 and an APR flash and haven't had a single problem. And I'm willing to bet 99% of 2012+ owners haven't had a problem either.

APR's software is good. If there was a problem, I'd blame the installer.

    Go for it.

Exactly - the software is not the problem; it's the fact that the ECU needs to be opened.

Do you have CCTA or CBFA? I would turn anyone with CBFA to APR because GIAC stage 2 doesnt have a test pipe file to hide the CEL. CCTA's wont have a problem since they can just use a o2 sensor spacer to make that go away.

However I love my GIAC tune and would recommend them to anyone

APR has the market share for a reason.

    Go with APR.

Go APR.... but since you do have a 2012, i would look into the problem with the ecu frying up.... alot of people seem to think its the installer, (which might be the case) but it seems to only be happening to 2012 models... Please correct me if im wrong though...

Since I live in New York, I'll be using TyrolSport in Ridgewood. They have an excellent reputation. My brother just had his "R" tuned by them and is very happy! He used APR.

My vote is APR all the way. I ran Stage 2 for 45k miles (car was tuned at 900 miles) and have been on a K04 APR set up for about 10k now. Couldn't be happier with everything.

I had APR Stg I on my 2011 and my ECU fried after 6 months. Seems to be a pretty rare occurrence though and I just have bad luck. Rode down to H2Oi with my buddy this weekend in his Stage 3 2012 Autobahn and it was intense.

My advice, stay stock, yes the issues are generally Installer f**kups, but software/firmware etc. are programs and they are all susceptible to screw up under the right/wrong conditions. there are no perfect programs, not even VW's, but once tuned be ready accept any hassles that develop, rare as they are, they happen. And you will be inconvenienced, and pay the price.

I've been doing APR flashes for years now. The newest ECU's require a totally different method than the previous ECU types. I can assure you that, that any issues that arise are during that burn process. and IF they do happen, the shop pays for it, and APR flashes it at they're headquarters. Their software is going to cause an ECU to melt. That's ridiculous with the amount of time put into make the tune and the testing that is done beforehand.

APR all the way. There is a reason they are where they are now, unlike other tunes.

My giac has a track only tune which works with a Catless Downpipe.

I have a mk6, but prior i had an mk4 with both apr and giac. I know you cant compare the 2 cars, but loved the giac way more, performance wise. Thats why I choose giac with the mk6

I had APR in my 2006 Audi A4, and the power and torque was much less than in my GTI. I understand the gti is much lighter, but the new found power in my gti is excellent! I should've used GIAC in my Audi.

I had GIAC first and performance wise it really pulled harder than the APR tune. I switched up to APR for there customer support. The performance shop I had GIAC installed at had poor customer support after the instal and when I contacted GIAC I got more poor customer support. Honestly, go for the company that gives you the best deal and the best support in your area. You can't go wrong with either one.

Yes, this issue has been covered numerous times. All you really need to do is a little research and you will find that just about everyone on this forum who has a GTI runs APR. I have run well over 50K miles in two different VW's with APR & never had a single issue. Need you know more ?

Giac makes no more boost or power than APR it's all in your head.

I know you can't switch programs on via cruise control with Giac, You have to plug in a clumsy controller to the obd 2 port. I"ve had both & I prefer APR
