There is a sport version. Better than any previous srt4 already.

I wish that car was rwd, I would buy one. I like everything about it besides the layout.
Then again I can say the same thing about a Cruze.

I think its already planned.

One has been made and will be released soon. It will be the Dart SRT....no more 4. SRT cars will start to move away from the number acronyms.

I wonder how long before we start hearing about various bits of the Dart that fail early in the vehicles life.

So they need to have 2 brands to sell one car? I don't understand this company. If they sold different cars fine, but having an SRT Dart and a Dodge Dart is just silly. They will both be sold under the same dealer, I doubt there will be any SRT-only dealers. So why have a whole new 'brand'. Or are they going to kill the Dodge name off?

To be honest, SRT is no different than how AMG is to MB, or quarto is to Audi. Only difference is that cars from SRT don't wear the parent company's badge.

That would be easier to accept if they didn't create a new brand to contain all their trucks. They'll probably confuse things further by making a Jeep pickup.
Would a heavy duty police Charger be a RAM?
With the 500 falling under Fiat branding, would they bring over the Strada as a Fiat or RAM?

Most budget minded compact sedans are FWD-based. I'm not sure if that is ever going to change. Maybe if Chevy makes the Code 130 concept into reality, but otherwise your choices for a small RWD sedan are limited to used copies of the Lexus IS, Infiniti G, or BMW 3 Series.

It's still just a Dart.

I suspect it has to do with the selling prices of the econo brand reputation of Dodge. Noone in their right mind buys a Dodge unless it's severely discounted. They depreciate fast, they don't have the best build quality and reliability. I suggest they're starting a new 'brand' where they can reprogram people to expect less discounting for "high performance" vehicles. Dodge can continue to be the volume brand, but this way it won't hinder markups for the SRT models. Just a wag, but follow the money.

The brands were shuffled and segmented so that they could be sold off individually if the Fiat deal fell through. Viper is actually its own brand, too.
You guys are reading a bit too far into it.

i was thinking it might get a 2.4 w/ turbo, awd and dual clutch. Now i get the feeling it's going to be way more basic than that

Partially right. Viper is the first unique model for SRT. Dodge lost the Viper because Fiat/Chrysler felt there was a limit for how much potential customers will pay for a Dodge. Viper will be joined by a reborn Barracuda in the SRT line-up. I don't know if this all sound business thinking, rather than just fixing Dodge. Given the Dart's slow sales, maybe Dodge can't be fixed?

SRT getting spun off into its own division has nothing to do with its potential for success as a Dodge model. The Viper, moreso than even the GT-R and Corvette, has an intensely loyal fan-base who would buy the car if it were badged a Fargo should Chrysler be so inclined. Chrysler created the SRT brand to soothe/stoke certain egos. Specifically, Ralph Gilles DESPISES the head of Mopar, Pietro Gorlier, so this was seen as a big "FUCK YOU" from Ralph to Pietro.
That's why Mopar is doing its own branded vehicles now, too.

If they wanted to win the brand diversity race, I think they got it. At least for America. They might as well go global and start making each model its own brand, then they can have more brands than anyone in the world. Each model would now be a super model because both only have one name.
