    Which would you rather have and why? A corrado with a 12v vr6 bored to 3.0 or a corrado with a 12v vr6 turbo? I am trying to decide which way to go because i want more power. A while back I almost bought a 3.0 corrado and the guy said it puts about 250 to 275 to the wheels, is this likely? I kind of like NA engines and I wouldnt have the money to rebuild and go turbo. Tell me your thoughts on both, thanks in advance for the help.

    I am pretty sure(correct me people if I am wrong)that the most power a N/A 12 VR6 has ever put out has only been around 225-230whp. Someone who said that it puts 250-275 to the wheels is lying to you and thinks you will fall for it. You want the best of both worlds get the bored VR6 and put a Kinetics turbo on it with a FMIC and call it a day. 250-275whp achieved.

    Do you think he meant bhp, if so 250-275 would be possible there right? He said it beat an sti, 24v mk4, and a stage 2 1.8t mk4. Is that possible?

    Would be possible if the STI was stock, and if the MK4s were full weight. Stage 2 1.8T even runs out of breath in the upper RPMs, and when you run to the end of 3rd on a 5 speed 1.8T the race is pretty much over.

    That said, I still doubt the numbers he's throwing you...

    You'd be able to turbo your car twice for the money you'd spend going the proper 3.0 route. I contemplated it too, since I'm about to pull my Corrado VR6 apart, but have decided to focus on the head, and possibly going FI later.

    The extra $3K+ you'd spend going 3.0 wouldn't be worth the 30 HP gain. 3.0 is basically for bragging rights, just to say you did it. If you want to get to 275whp just go turbo. Then if you want more, just crank up the boost. More even? Just more boost.

    I'd be plenty satisfied with 300whp, and will probably stick to a supercharged setup. I mean, the car is FWD and anything more would be totally useless on the streets.

    I couldn't install or work on the trubo setup. Since I cant install it, wont it be close to 3,000 anyway? Also since I can't work on the turbo set up, if it starts to run funny, I am in some trouble because this is my only car.

    Turbos are not complicated at all. You could learn how to solve any problem related to a setup in a few hours tops.

    You also mentioned you wanted more power. Spending all that money on 3.0 won't get you anywhere near a turbo.

    If you have some basic hand tools, a decent mechanical aptitude, and some time, a supercharger kit can be installed in a weekend working slowly. And it will net you around 50whp more than going 3.0 for less money spent.

    If you really need to get the work done by a shop, going 3.0 will cost way more than a turbo setup. There is A LOT of machine work and labor time involved. Most shops should be able to install a turbo kit in a day, day and half.. whereas the 3.0 build could take weeks.. How long can you go without a car?

    Agreeing with Ron here. The deal here is I don't know how much money you have to invest in this set up. Yes a 3.0 bore will cost more than a turbo and take way too long.(unless you have a second car/time)If you decide to go turbo and want a bit more power without cranking the boost? Other things you can do would be add cams(262's,264/260's,266's, 268's etc.), a P&P head, bigger valves, P&P head bigger valves, and cams would work well too. Cams will add some decent power 15-30whp depending on the set up. A P&P'd head, bigger valves, or both with cams will add quite a bit more with less boost. I think however that might be going a bit overboard too. I know I might be complicating the matter by mentioning these other options but always better to know more than less. So be patient and wise in your choice it will save you $$$$ and wasted time. Good Luck. I hope to see pics and dyno results when it gets said and done.

    I am looking to spend up to 4000 but preferably closer to 3000. What would benefit more when it comes time to sell the car. Basically which one would sell for more a 3.0 or vrt? Because eventhough I dont plan to sell it for a while, the time will come.

    You will be taking aloss either way.. Build the car to your liking. Just know that these modifications dont really hold their value when they are daily driven or street cars that see their fair share of road time. The only way you will make some of your money back is to keep in the garage and never drive it.. Its sad but true..

    Very true Cams and a worked head would double his budget. I was giving him every option to available to make the most power. You are right though a super charger with a 3.0L 12v VR6 would be pretty sexy and the torque from the upped displacement would give it a little down low grunt missing from the linear power curve of a vortex S/C

    I talked to about three buy only about a rebuild and not really about price witha bore. But i guess I should have asked that first

    I have a vrt mk2... Runs sick even at low boost of 13psi. Now my brothers 3.0t vr6, a whole new world. His power is sooner, last longer, and the torque on the car is insane.


    I say go vrt and in time build a clean low compression block and boost crazy.

    Take the 3k and buy a second car so you can spend time to learn how to work on your own car. Cause honestly, you're going to need it if you can;t work onthe car yourself.
    If only I invested my money into something more practical then a VW....

    I'm saying he wont be able to go 3.0 within his budget. Head work and cams are doable if he pulls and then reinstalls the head himself.

    I also said a supercharger kit would fit his budget (albeit used..), is easy to install, and will net him a lot more power to boot.

    Yep, and being young he still has plenty of time to learn I would soak up as much knowledge as possible and find a local that would be willing to take you under his wing and show you a thing or two. A local enthusiast that would be willing to have you learn and assist a head rebuild etc. Basically to teach you

    I did the above. Now the kid can build vr's in his sleep.

    It's nice to having someone who is somewhat knowledgeable around.

    Yup. Thing is, super charger can be bought within his current budget, and is a relatively easy install for somebody wanting to get familiarized to the car and the world of wrenching. It will also get him enough power to be dangerous/happy for a while. And if he doesn't have a loaded tool box, should still have enough money to get a pretty decent amount of basic hand tools.
