    Howdy,

I had my Audi A3 maintained by the dealer every 13 or 14 months or so since I probably drive around 6k miles/yr , and now Audicare is over, I have kind of extended my had one less included maint than the Audicare that you buy). I am just wondering if the required maintenance is 1 year or should it be 10k miles?

I do have an extended warranty that was included as part of my auto insurance and I don't want to jeopardize that warranty because somebody says the maint wasn't done yearly.

I'm sorta in the same boat in that I average about 7k miles per year.

The dealer has told me I should follow the mileage interval for maintenance OR once per year ... whichever comes first

So according to Audi, the only thing that goes on a interval schedule (as opposed to distance) are the spark plugs, brake fluid and cloth top. Everything else is distance based?

Got to tell that to my car that constantly annoys me about SERVICE.

I've been ignoring that stupid thing for years.

I would like to know why the DSG fluid change is 35k miles but a VW with the same transmission is 40k miles. I guess they just think that Audi customers are willing to pay for more maintenance.

That's because VW has service at 5000 miles then 10000 miles which puts them with a 10000 mile interval at 40000 miles. Audi has service at 5000 miles then a 10000 mile interval. Also VW includes maintenance while under warranty--it's an extra charge for Audi Care.

I think you mixed some numbers around, but I get the idea. Still seems very odd to set a maintenance interval based on where the other maintenance items happen to start. Makes it look like they are just guessing.

The website I found listed GTI maintenance that VW pays for at 5K, 10K, 20K, 30K, 40K etc.
    Audi's schedule is 5K, 15K, 25K, 35K, etc.

I bought my car three years old with 9k miles. Currently at 24k miles (15k in the past 16 months). My next service @ 25k miles on the car University Audi will do the recommended service for 35k miles which includes the DSG flush.

Basically the original owner had it on a time based interval and I drive just enough miles to put it back on the miliage based interval but now I'm ahead of the curve on services which I don't mind because I'll get the expensive 35k mile service for free under Audicare.

I was a bit surprised on my first service that they bled my brakes and replaced the fluid under Audicare when I requested it.

If I am to go back to the time based interval, I will have to drive w/o maint for the next 30k miles.

brake fluid is changed every 2 yrs, under their sched maint.

That doesn't make any sense to me. If you go back on a time based interval over mileage you should be doing whatever the next 5k mile service interval suggests at least once annually.

At a minimum I'd do Oil changes every 5k miles or 12 months whatever comes first unless I had a TDI then 10k miles or 12 months. The rest of it I'd go with common sense and err on the side of unnecessary maintenance.

i meant go back to mileage based interval, so 5th service should be at 55k

Some car makers offer a severe maintenance schedule that you must follow if your car falls into their definition of hard use. I am not aware that Audi has such a thing. In my case I checked with a dealer technician and he suggested that I do more frequent oil changes than Audi recommends. My situation falls into the severe (hard use) category.
