    Hello all,

Took apart vr6, cleaned throttle body, cleaned, pcv valve, changed oil, plug wires, transmission oil, and radiator, cleaned MAF.

Started the car today and it died about three times, after about 10 minutes of rough chugging and idling and surging it idles fine now.

The problem is the car sounds a bit rough, I figure this is just the computer sorting out the newly cleaned parts, BUT, every 30 seconds or so there is a very loud thwack! its a very metallic sound, any ideas as to what this could be?

Triple check all your connections TB plug, Check your plug wires at the coil pack and make sure your firing order is correct.. sounds like you missed something when you re assembled also let the ecu re adapt before you start the car.. turn the key almost all the way but rite before the point of starting the car and leave it there for 2 min then start it... try that for starters

I agree that the OP should reset his ECU to try to fix his bad idle. However, what you describe above won't reset his ECU. Instead, he should disconnect his battery then proceed as described at the bottom of this thread.
