In the front the S1 coilover for the MK5/6 VW/Audi Group platform features a specially designed progressive spring rate matched to a twin tube low pressure gas damper mounted in a new heavy silver zinc plated threaded coilover housing that provides not only great handling, but also exceptional corrosion resistance.

The rear features a progressive coil spring and adjustable threaded perch system with a specially tuned sport damper that is matched to the lowering range of the coil/perch combination.

I'm a noob to coilovers. I have never used anything but lowering springs before.

Most people have told me that in cold climates where snow is common that coilovers are not a good option due to the salts and chemicals used to treat the roads? I have heard that they eat the seals and unless you give them thorough washes often they will fail after a year or so.

this a myth or is there some truth behind this??

I've driven through winters with coilovers (KW V1 & V2) without issue. I spray Amsoil MP Heavy Duty Metal Protector on the coilover threads and ring when I swap tires for the winter and the coilovers seem to hold up fine over the winter.

Some of my friends have had issues with the adjusting rings seizing on the threads after the winter, making it non-height adjustable.

Haven't heard of any issues with seals though.

Hello ChadS99SVT,

I agree with gawa, using a product like the amsoil one he uses or the Boesheild T9 that we offer is good advice for the coilover body.

The seals however are normally made of a very resistant material that should not be affected by the elements. They are made to resist the shock oil as well as just about anything mother nature throws at them.

I have never heard of or seen any products that you can use to increase seal life.

New Product Update - Release

For those of you who are experiencing squeaks in your front end after installing ANY of the aftermarket coilovers Solo Werks and 034Motorsport have just released their new upgraded front strut mounts!

If you are hearing this noise:


VW MK5 / MK6 Suspension Noise Video

When you:

• Pull out of a driveway
• During slow driving on mildly rough surfaces

Some of our customers have reported this only on one side, some both. Others have this only for the first few minutes of driving and then it disappears even over the same conditions as if something is "warming up". Others report it is a constant noise and does not dissipate.

These are now available as an upgrade option on the AMI site - just select the 034 Density Upper Mount set from the Upgraded Strut Mounts drop down box on our website when ordering.

They are also available separately and are a direct OEM fitment so no modification required and work with most every suspension system including FACTORY.
