My drivers side lock cylinder gave up on my 01 VR6 GTI. So I thought rather than replacing all of that ( the car didn't come with the alarm fob either but does have the alarm) I figured I would install my viper alarm and use that to lock and unlock the doors (climbing in through the trunk is a pain). However the door trigger switch was not registering on the alarm and I noticed that my dome lights were not working when the drivers door was open. I knew the locking modules go bad so I replaced it but that did not change a thing. I notice this morning when I checked just out of curiousity that my passengers side door does not trigger the dome light either. The Electric locks themselves work fine. The interesting part is that the door light on the drivers side got broken when a friend who was helping me, who shall remain nameless, shut it in the door as we were taking things apart. Well I noticed that when the brown and white wire, the ground of the door light, was grounded the dome light would come on (and stay on). I have checked and re checked the fuses. Could it be that a ground has come off somewhere or a relay is going bad. Like I said everything else ie: power windows, mirrors, locks, door speakers, etc all work ok. Could it be a bad comfort control module? Would I be better just to buy a set of the old fashioned push type switch like on an MK3 or older?
