Clueless about computers and I need to transfer everything

I am getting a new computer next week and I will have to turn my currant computer in. Whats the simplest most efficient way to transfer all my files to the new computer? Can I just put the folders on a jump drive or is there more to it than that. Also will I be able to transfer my itunes videos and pictures using a jump drive?

Files are easy to transfer. If you have an external hard drive or a USB drive to spare, those work just fine. You can copy and paste your files/videos/etc. You won't be able to transfer most programs though. That will require you to re-install the software on the new computer.

I'm not sure about transferring iTunes content since I don't really use it. Sorry. I'm sure someone else will be able to weigh in though.

Or just copy everything to a large enough USB drive.

windows to windows you will have some permission issues, but its easy to get around.

PC to PC, I turn this computer in and get the new one on Tuesday. I really only need to transfer my word documents, pictures and itunes

how much data do you need to transfer. 64gb usb sticks are reasonable but SLOW. do you have or have access to an external drive. you need to figure out how much room you need.

I picked up a 32 and have already transferred most of my stuff. I'm still having trouble getting itunes over though. They didn't have any 64's but I get a 32 and a few small usb's and I think that should do the trick

What operating systems are you transferring between?

Do you know how much space just your iTunes music folder takes up? It might be difficult for a novice to move the iTunes folder in batches. It might be better to get an external drive as others have mentioned.

I think I am just going to wait and try to transfer everything to the new computer. Can that be done with an external drive? I've got my pictures on a USB and its fairly easy to transfer purchases so all I need to get transferred are the videos I downloaded and they are not on this computer anyway. I'll just reload all my cd's and transfer purchases when I get the new computer so I will just need to figure out those videos.

Anyone know how to save youtube videos on your computer or more specifically on itunes. That's really the only thing I had that I couldn't save. It don't remember how I did it the first time but it was pretty simple. I think I just right clicked on the video and saved it but I couldn't get that to work. I have some videos that I use for coaching but I also need to update my itouch
