Thread: Need color opinions for new Passat

  1. 10-02-2012 10:59 AM #1
Considering the not-very-popular Glacier Blue on a new Passat V6. I liked it at first, and to me it seems stronger in person than in photos. I think it'd look good dirty, similar to a silver. Not a popular color though FWIW. The color reminds me of a color seen on '60's Chevys, it's a nice icy blue metallic. It'd stand out in today's sea of gray / silver / white cars I think.

But some colors just seem to do better on certain body styles. On the Passat's conservatively styled body, I almost get a senior citizen vibe off of the color, or maybe it's just too wimpy of a blue. Like maybe it'd look much better on a smaller hatchback?

Why do people not seem to like this color? Too girly for most dudes?

My other choice is the far more popular Tungsten Silver. Looks classy and looks good dirty. Seems to bring out the shapes in the bodywork nicely. Silver is the new beige though, and Silver / Gray cars are rather boring I suppose. Thoughts on these two?

I honestly think it looks best in black, but having owned few black cars in the past i say never again. between two you presented i say blue.

The blue reminds me of BMW silverstone.

They've done studies you know. 60% of the time... it works every time.

I like the darker blue color (Night Blue Metallic):

I've been happy with Glacier Blue on mine, although I do incur some amount of powder-puff/leisure suit jokes.

Platinum Gray is a nice color too.

I like the sky blue colors. Even the Camry looks good with it.

Even with the post year 2000 reflex silver, that blue looks very dated to me.

The Passat looks huge and the design conservative. If I had to, I would choose a darker hue and light leather interior to break / create a visual line.

    Glad color is coming back.

Agree with the poster above that Night Blue looks great! But I live in a dusty desert climate. I need a light color. I had a Galactic Blue VW. Looked great when it was clean, for 24 hours or so. No more dark colors.

I liked the Opera Red Metallic we had on ours, but for some reason it was a bird poop magnet. No kidding.

I didn't realize Ice Blue was a senior color? It looks fantastic on the Passat. I think you might have that percception becuase it's a fairly common color on Camrys?

I'm sure you could phone VW Individual and try to get a Jazz Blue one

Greyscale colors were the most common on the assembly line for sure. Go blue!

I've never seen any pull off light blue well at all. Hell, at least beige is serviceable on some cars.
I have a manual transfer case. Praise be unto Me.

I have to admit its growing on me. There's one parked in the lot next to my office and I keep checking out the color. Its an SE without the chrome strips, FWIW. My 05 Passat was the Blue Silver color which I really liked (and which reminded me very much of one my favorite VW colors-Cosmos Silver); Glacier Blue is more blue and less silver than those which seems to be the reason its taking a while to adjust.

Part of me wants to get Night Blue and just deal with the hassle because it looks sweet. I'd probably regret it though.

Anyway, here in AZ we have a ton of snowbirds every winter. A lot of them seem to drive giant Crown Vics and Caddys and I see a lot of light blue. I think that is my hang up other than it just isn't a strong color. But subtle can be good, without being a boring silver/grey/white, right?

I guess it's just a different color than I'm used to seeing, so it seems odd. Maybe it'd grown on me?

BTW my wife's Jetta is Reflex Silver. Great color for low maintenance, but boring. So if I went with Tungsten Silver I'd have two Silver-ish cars. But damn, in some photos, the Tungsten Silver looks like it was MADE for the Passat. Really clean.

And yeah, there's an annoying lady at work with a Camry in a very similar blue

Light blue is the official color of retirees around here.

If it were me, I'd go for the deep red that shomegrown posted.

I happen to think Opera Red is extremely handsome, and would be the color I'd pick. But I realize when it comes to reds, they're not for everyone. Black would be my next choice, followed by silver.

    I love the red.

Glacier blue just seems inappropriate for a large sedan like the Passat. I could see that color working on a Golf or a Beetle but not the American Boatssat.

Yeah reds are tricky, and I've never liked dark burgundy reds.

I guess I'm mostly looking for reasons people like / dislike the Glacier Blue.

Yes it's the Passat CC. If you want the real Passat (non-US/RoW) get a new CC.

    That is awesome!

I wonder how he did that... the paint I can understand but wouldn't he have to retrofit the xenons, and not do it on the assy. line? I noticed the pasted on reflector so it's legal, so that must have been factory approved in some way and not an aftermarket install, unless he just wanted to be safe.
