Thread: Will I have to run a new bluetooth mic?

  1. 10-02-2012 11:07 AM #1
I'm in the process of replacing my OEM radio with an aftermarket DD unit http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130P440...H-P4400BH.html

My queston is this, will I have to use the supplied bluetooth mic that comes with the aftermarket stereo or will I able to use the existing wiring and mic already installed in the car?
Please help, I'd rather it just be a plug and play thing and not have to run cable for a new mic.

BTW, I have an 09 Jetta S with regular single CD stock stereo. (No steering wheel controls, no navi).

    Thanks.

Check your connection in the back. My GTI didn't come with this, and the unit I bought did. It was like a head phone jack that just plugged into the back of the deck. Ran it under the dash, up the pillar, and to the stock location.

Well I know the stock radio has bluetooth, so I basically wanna know if by installing the aftermarket radio (which has bluetooth) with a PAC harness, will I retain my blootooth using the pre-exiting wiring and mic?

That depends on how your mic is connected in the new setup. If it's plugged into a jack somewhere, you're probably good to go. Otherwise you're probably either splicing your current mic wire or running new mic wire.

Edit: If you look at the picture of the back of the unit on the Crutchfield link you posted (use the zoom feature) you will see there is a mic plug on your new radio, so you should be able to simply plug your old mic into it and not run new wire or splice anything.

I wouldnt know which radio. It's just the single Mp3/CD radio. I didnt think I had Bluetooth either, being stock and all, until one day while paring up my earpiece, the "VW UHV" appeared and it connected to the radio.

Do you have the one with the Grey buttons? I have the grey button one (single CD/MP3 and I just tried the bluetooth with my blackberry curve and it's definitely not there)... or if there is one, it's either not turned on and set to be discovered...the manual doesn't even mention bluetooth .. Well good luck with yours

Not sure if this is the same thing on yours, as its a dif radio...

I have an 08 GLI and I put in a DVD Nav in the dash to replace the previous radio. I have been trying to find out for some time how to hook up the bluetooth to the existing bluetooth connection/speakers that are above my head by the sunglass holder.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ye it's the one with the gray buttons, so I'm guessing im already wired and there should be a mic in the sunglass holder, so basically I'm already pre-wired for blootooth and would prefer not having to run a new mic.

Yeah, thats exactly what I'm trying to figure out as well, in this case before I buy the new unit.

If it is apart of the main connection harness, then you will have to splice into it with the new mic connection. That or just rerun the new mic.
