Megasquirt for JH (83' GTI) engine???

Hi all,

Before I'll get a bunch of BS.... I did search the forums and couldn't find a thread covering exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the engine for my 83' VW Rabbit GTI (US. built). My plan is to use a 3A block with JH head. Since I'm pretty much taking apart the entire engine I was wondering if it makes sense to switch from my current CIS (k-jetronic) to a megasquirt setup?

I did some research and it seems like there are some options for EFI only and EFI+spark.
Does it make sense to replace both at the same time?
What components to I need for this conversion. From what I found I will need the following parts:

• Fuel Rail
• Fuel Pump
• Fuel Pressure Regulator
• Injectors

and of course the Megasquirt Controller. Which one of the MS systems (I, II or III) and board version is appropriate for my application?
I will also have to add some additional sensors, correct?
Which ones are necessary for the conversion?

For the spark setup, what kind of hardware is needed?
Is there a "best" supplier for the MS conversion. Maybe a complete kit available?

Also, are there any known issues with the MS conversion for my particular car/engine combination?

Look in the SEM,Carb forum. Your stock fuel pump will be just fine. As for the board, v3 is what you want. The MS1 chip can suffice nicely, the others add some features you may or may not need. The only "known issues" that I can think of is the "issues" you can cause yourself. Spend a lot of time reading and collecting all the info you can. And while you are doing this, you can start to collect parts and pieces.
