Found Volkswagen Shop manual for great Price

Just want to share this....
I just received Volkswagen Shop manual that i purchased on ebay. I paid something around $14 for it. let me tell you this thing is great you have access to all repair manuals and part numbers etc...

I bought it from this guy in England (took one week to receive)

I think this is great tool to own for just $14.

Not to rain on your parade, but from the sounds of it, it's bootleg (illegal) copies of the software. No way it can be legal at that price.

I just use the AllData DIY subscription. $30-50 or so for 5 years. Convenience is the biggest selling point of it. You can find things quickly with it.

I think that the subject of "theft" is too large for this.

If you own a shop and you profit from purchasing the illegal manual, then YES, i have a problem with that. Especially because chances are the shop owner does not own the car the manual is for.

For the enthusiast that already bought the car and merely wants to know which module is where, or which cable connects to which area or how to disassemble a caliper, etc. i don't see a problem. We would not profit from having the material AND we already spent the money on the car.

If they don't want to give me any info on how to work on MY car i wont give them any info on the issues with their car under warranty, i'd just drive to the dealer and say "FIND THE PROBLEM" and walk away. Why would they use my expertise and time to tell them that my right speaker or my defroster does not work?? they can figure that out on their own, just like we can figure out stuff without their manual.

They use our experience as users to improve their cars, issue repairs, recalls and updates. I can use their manual all i want as long as i do it for myself and not for profit.

Again this is only my opinion in my own world and may have nothing to do with reality.

Me neither. There is a huge difference between knowledge and intellectual property. Based on the description, the item being sold on fleabay would legally be considered intellectual property or a variation of someone's creative efforts. Plagiarism and copyright infringements only serve to stifle creativity and innovation. That's a fact.

Purchasing counterfeit copies only serves to deny the author a reward for his/her creative efforts. I personally would feel terrible with the knowledge that I was enjoying some economic benefit using stolen property.

Personally, I think AllData is crap. But that's just me. They tried to make a product that's a one size fits all type of product. You can't get all the part #s from various markets (i.e. Euro vs US) find out what's swappable. The wiring diagrams aren't the best. And the repair / DIY aspects are mostly generic and not Vehicle / Equipment Specific. Bentley's not bad as a "shop reference" for the most common jobs.

My information was based on experiences in the past with it. In the past, even though you pick a "specific" vehicle. The information contained within for repairs isn't 100% accurate nor complete. It only contains the most "common" of repairs. For example... "in the past" I could not go in, and look up the part #s / repair / torque specs to replace a piston with details of ring order, honing procedures, etc. But If i needed to know how to change the oil, no problem.
