I'd do it, assuming the BMW doesn't need any major work. Sometimes low-mileage cars that just sit in a garage for long periods of time are worse off then those that have been driven more and have had more maintenance.

My friend, as shown in this thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...ancer-Ralliart
he now admits that he hates his Lancer Ralliart, it rides like a boat, the transmission is clunky, boring, and sluggish.
His uncle offered to take over payments on his Lancer Ralliart (NOTE: He only has $3,000 in equity into the lancer, almost all of which was his previous car, which he used as a down payment,) in return, his uncle will give him his garage kept E36 M3 in Blue with the light grey interior. It has ONLY 36K miles. His uncle just wants an automatic and he liked the lancer a lot.
My friend owes $26K on the lancer and he hates it.
Try to convince him to make this decision, it's like he's getting an E36 M3 for $3K.

not sure if serious......
Get out of car he hates? check.
Get into a car he will like? check.
Financially advantageous? check.
check. check.

Based on your previous advice and his response, I would tell him it's a terrible idea. Then watch as he swaps keys with his uncle![]()

I have a hard time believing the uncle will trade a mint m3 worth prolly $17k for the chance to, essentially, buy a new car... doesn't make any sense. Nobody is that economically illiterate.

The Ralliart has several deficiencies, but the transmission is not one of them.![]()

Uhh... trade for the M3, put 1.5k in maintenance into it, and have a perfect M3 for 4.5k....

His Uncle wants to get out of a stick. The trade in value people are giving him is around 10K, so he'd rather hook my friend up, I guess.
I drove it, it's pretty clunky. It feels like riding in a car with someone who doesn't drive stick well.

Is he beating the **** out of it? No offense, but he doesn't strike me as a guy who makes good decisions.
I ask because I drove a Ralliart for a week and it blew away any other dual-clutch box I'd driven to that point. The new seven-speed PDK and such are better, but for a ****-ton more money.
What I didn't like was the ridiculously short gearing, but that was more due to the powerband of the weak-ass engine than anything else.

The only time he's pleased with it is when he's in the AUTO-SPORT mode. Any other time with the manual mode, it takes quite some time to shift. Which surprised me due to how much praise these transmissions were getting from their owners.
He's pretty mild with his car and doesn't drive it hard, he just hit 1600 miles and opened it up for the first time the other day. Before that, he drove like a grandma.

Anyone who's stupid enough to buy a Mitsubishi off the dealer lot should not be allowed to touch an E36 M3. Tell him to keep his Lancer.

If he will promise the gods of TCL to take really good care of the M3, then he may do it.
IDK why anyone wouldn't want to do that... I mean the Ralliart is basically a detuned evo, but it's still got a crappy slushbox and horrible interior. That M3 is a steal at that price.

He shouldn't do it. Because he sounds like a douche. That M3 should go to someone who doesn't have their head up their ass.
