Were you able to register it in California?

So, This thing has been kicking around. I have too many projects. Eventually it would be nice to make it a clean show car. There are only 2 complete one's I know of in the United States and the other one is a different color if I recall. They are getting extremely hard to find in the UK too.
For those that don't know, this thing needs a respray but had special paint, factory bronze tint windows, leather interior, Heron 1.6 liter Euro GTI motor, and a bunch of other sweet options. It is right hand drive of course and I have dashboards, cables, and other RHD stuff to throw in.
I bought it in Wales and had it shipped over to California, then it made its way to Massachusetts where it sits. Right now I think it just needs a fuel pump. I haven't spent a whole lot of time checking it out. I am feeling out the interest on this thing.
My main reason for selling is that I have too many project cars, and this one is too rare for racing or crazy stuff and that's my main interest. I would like to see it go to a good home. Call me crazy but I'd rather have a down and dirty 16v than a Mk1 show car.
For trades and stuff I would consider a 16v Scirocco, shell, running, built or whatever preferably Alpine White. That's really it though.
Let me know what you guys think.......

Classified forum rules require that you post a price. If you don't know what to ask, they suggest that you search past FS threads.
So, when your item sells, please don't edit out your price and description when you mark it "SOLD". Rather, edit to show selling price.

Never bothered. I was military and registration in Maine was just too easy.

so do you have a clean & clear federalized title in any state?
what exhaust is currently on the car
what is your asking price?

what did you have to do to register it here in maine? ive always wondered what had to be done to register imported cars here, i figured it wouldnt be much but did you just basically register it like any other car?

Sorry I am never on here anymore really. I am headed up to Maine this Thanksgiving to send in for the title. I never worried about it until now because Maine does not require it.
Registration was super easy. As it is 25+ years all I did was hand them the origination papers and they handed me a registration. The title will be easy, but perhaps a bit time consuming. Since there is decent interest I am going ahead. I'd like to see it go to a good home.
Just checking PM's now......

Ok, sorry about falling off the face of the earth. I tend to do that with the Vortex. So with spring coming and my need for a VR6 Turbo, I am getting more serious about selling this thing.
I am applying for a letter of verification. What that means is the State of Maine will send me a paper saying that this specific car did not require a title in Maine. This will allow the new state to establish a new title. This process should only take a week or two. So I suppose let's get the ball rolling.
Who wants one of the rarest VW's ever produced?
As for an update for old friends, I will be Scirocco-less until I find an Alpine white 16v. I am cutting up my mk2 soon to focus on my other cars. Sometimes I wish I was still in Cali and able to go to Bonelli![]()

Ok. If you're looking for an amazing pristine car with specific heritage don't bother with this.
If you are looking for a car with amazing potential and what you see is what you get.... let me know.
If you are looking to do the work yourself it's mainly just labor, but if you're outsourcing be prepared for thousands of dollars to get it show ready. (maybe 7k-ish???)
This is for someone who want's a fairly intense project with a large payoff.
So don't bother me if you aren't prepared to shell out gobs of money to get it right, or if you aren't looking for a ground up restoration.
I want to see this go to a deserving home too, so I will slightly discriminate.
Thanks. Just a heads up my friend who has the VR turbo motor I want is also interested in just taking the car.
So if you are a real Scirocco nut....please let me know and state that in your PM. I've been out of the loop too much to know which of you are truly serious.
