I will be running my first marathon this Oct 14th. Any tips for the week before that you guys/gals have used to prepare? I will ease up on my workouts for the next two weeks. I have a nice color run 5k this weekend but it is just a fun run with some friends and family. I am more looking for what foods to eat and drink leading up to the race. I did my first 1/2 marathon back in April and was very happy with my 1:55 time. I just want to finish this marathon under 5 hours. I think I will stick to 1/2 and belows.
Should be easing up already on your workouts, a three week taper is usually the minimum taper for a marathon. you can try some fancy carbo loading, i usually just eat mainly carbs for 2 or 3 days before the race. Sip on some sports drink when you wake up and up until you start the race. If you can run a 1:55 half, a 4:30 or below marathon is a perfectly reasonable time for a first one. marathons are usually about how well you fuel and hydrate yourself during the run. if you've practiced taking gels or calories during your long runs, and you stick with that during the marathon you'll be fine. Also if you stick with your desired race pace (and don't go out too quickly), you'll be fine as well.
Thanks my last long run of 18 miles was two weeks ago. Since then I have been under 10 miles for long runs. I still like to do cardio since I am in the process of losing weight. Its hard to only do 30 minutes when I want to do 60.
