So, have any of you have the opportunity/disadvantage of removing a 1.8T ATP exhaust manifold before?
I'm in the process of getting the jetta project back to stock status so I can start playing with it and this manifold has now become the bane of my existence. I'll be bending a 12mm wrench this weekend in hopes of following the info some other guys have done here on the vortex.
Just wondering if anyone has any pointers before I started breaking stuff out of anger...![]()

Jesus, really?
Is it easier just from a maneuverability standpoint? It's not like you have more clearances. I could see the turbo install part being easier, but only the manifold is my issue currently.

yeah pretty much with the amount of busted knuckles and frustration that you will have to work with it in the car it would be easier to pull the head

Yeah, way way easier. Most of the time you may need a torch to heat up the nuts to get them off the exhaust studs. And if a stud breaks the head is already off to extract it which you'd need to heat up anyways.
And bolts, and might as well do a t belt kit since the belt has to come off. Doing one thing is just gonna cause a snow ball effect, but will also save you tons in the long run.

theres only like 6 bolts that suck on those if i remember. use the bent up wrench. grind the sides flat. use a mirror. it can be done. i did it a couple times in the past.
