Yea this is gonna be a permanent setup....for this reason. I am going to connect a USB powered Hard Drive to it, from the glove box. That way if I want to add anything to it I can do it directly from the hard drive. If I really do need to take it out, that can be done too.

DUDE. you are awesome. do a write up of everthing. This is really hot.

My question to you now is.

      You have unlimited data:
Dont you have to pay extra for the tethering or is this some kind of galaxy to galaxy thing I dont know about?

because it it is,im doing the switch.

DarkNeo is right. All you have to do is root the phone and then download an app called FoxFi. Lets you tether to anything and it works great. I am working on a write up for this project and will be taking pics the whole way through!

That's a good idea. I'm curious to see this come together.

That would be sick for car trips, plug the phone into the cig lighter so it doesn't die, and run the tablet on the Internet for the whole drive watching Netflix and such

It is actually the exact size of a double din. I was afraid there would be some fabrication that needed to be done but there is none. It fits perfect and there will be no fabrication needed beside the plastic welding it into the front face plate

I like where you're going with this, but one question from a practicality standpoint: how do you plan on power cycling the tablet when necessary? I assume you're going to have to pull the dash

This was one of my questions as well. That and easy access to volume control.

The volume control of the tablet will be controlled by the headunit in the arm rest. I was thinking of porting the volume control of the headunit to one of the dead buttons where the esp button is....depending on if its a pain in the ass to adjust from the arm rest. For power cycling im going to use the app called Tasker. I will program it so that when the tablet senses voltage going to the tablet (aka the car turning on) it will wake the tablet and begin charging via the usb connection. When the car is shut off the tablet will sense no more voltage and will put that tablet into standby. Does that make sense?

I think we are talking more about actual power cycling turning the tab on or off or rebooting if needed

My buddy was going to put an HTC Flyer tablet in his Lincoln LS. I don't know if he ever finished it though. Anxious to see the final results! Gonna look clean. Also, if you have a Samsung Android phone, check out FoxFi. If you don't want to root your phone, it's a free hotspot app. I've had it for a couple months now and at&t hasn't said anything yet. I recommend it or as others have mentioned, xda has a ton of info.
