Thread: Reliability/Durability of APR's HPFP?

  1. 10-03-2012 09:45 PM #1
    Hey everyone,

I am looking to purchase a used APR HPFP. It is approximately 3 years old. I'm not confident in the milege it's been used for as per the owner, but aside from that. Let's assume it'd been daily use.

What are your experiences? Does APR have warranty or rebuild service's available? How much would it cost?

    Cheers.

I do not have any experience with their HPFP but you should contact Arin@APR via PM. He (she?) has always been quick and honest with answers to my questions and this seems like something he/she could get a solid answer to you.

hpfp seems good to me... i had mine rebuilt to apr spec at 30k have 50k on it now but will say that there was no noticable diff in power from the stage 2 to 2+.. they also serialize the fuel pump everything im sure is built to last the duration of the engine at least

Be careful! Alot of people don't sell these until they punch thru a follower. You also have to watch for cracked/split fuel pressure sensor contacts. In other words without GOOD pics or in person visual PASS!

The good: I found a used one for $500.

The bad I noticed in the provided photo the fuel pressure sensor cracked like so (ignore the one on the right, whole other story)

The Good I pointed it out and got it for $400

The bad received the pump and noticed the plunger tip wear! This from a pump claimed to have been used only 4000 miles. Clearly several of those miles were with the follower punched thru!

SO after swapping the tip with a stock one with no uneven wear as shown ( APR n back with swapped good stock tip, luckily APR and stock tips were the same)

and swapping the fuel pressure sensor with the one from my warranty replaced pump on the car

I ended up with a fully functional APR pump for $400 while jacking my spare and OEM pump on the car for parts. Would APR recommend this, hell no but I can assure you its working beautifully ( log and butt verified) with no excessive follower wear (last check after a few thousand miles)

At the end of the day could have sent mine in during any APR sale for $150 more. The key is checking the tip, sensor and doesn't hurt to push it in a few times by hand to make sure your getting what you thought you were before buying.

Hey man, how did you swap the plunger tips outs? Is there a trick to getting them off?

No real trick, just popped it off with a screw driver. Its kind off crimped on but they'll come off.
