Moved to Texas recently from California. California is a fairly strict state on mods. I looked at the rules on the Texas website, which of course, makes you believe that mods will not pass inspection. The site states that CAI needs the CARB certification, which I don't think the APR intakes have. Not sure how strict they are on exhaust mods (although I assume you are ok if you don't remove the cat).

I am interested in knowing what issues, if any, people in Texas have with exhaust/intake mods and the annual inspection process.

CARB certification means nothing outside of California.

You should be fine. As long as your car doesn't throw codes and it looks like you have a cat (for the sake of a visual inspection) you should be fine. If your state uses a sniff test, you will need a cat for that, but otherwise you're good.

I don't remember my last inspector even opening the hood or getting under the car.
He just harrased me for my wiper blades, then tried to sell me some for ~$80 installed. I litteraly went to the Auto Zone accross the street, bought and installed new blades in the parking lot (saving $30), and returned to get my sticker.

If you live in a county with smog tests, you *might* have issues.
Still, I doubt it since the test is run at idle.

The Texas vehicle inspection site specifically states that after market intakes must have a "CARB" designation. My real question is whether or not this is enforced.

That's really strange since it stands for "California Air Resources Board."

I'm pretty sure no one outside of CA gives a damn about any of that.

APR TBE is fairly quiet and looks stock. It has a cat as well...

I doubt you'll have trouble, just make sure to get flashed stage 2 to avoid any CEL's.

Worst outcome: you have to put your stock TBE back on for an inspection... then just put the APR back on. An annoyance, sure, but not life changing.

As long as your CEL is not on, you will pass. Assuming tires, lights, etc are all in proper condition.

It does, but that does not preclude other states from using it as it is considered the most strict emissions test for an aftermarket component.

this is why I save most of my original components-just replace before smogging, etc
