I replaced the batteries in my key fob last night and now it doesnt function. I double checked everything- battery type, polarity, etc, and everything was fine. I can manually lock and unlock the door from the outside but I cant disarm the alarm so I cant start the car. the fob was working fine before the new bateries. i even tried switching back to the old batteries and it still didnt work. I dont know what to do and I cant find anything when i search. my car is a 1999.5 and I have the older style switchblade fob.

I don't know what you did, but something doesn't sound right.

There are two components in the key fob. The alarm remote and the immobilizer transponder.

Either turning the key in the door or the alarm remote should disable the alarm. The proximity of the transponder near the ignition switch should disable the immobilizer.

I recently tried to transfer the electronics from an old-style key (rounded buttons) into a new-style key (square buttons), only to discover they use different batteries and one of the chips interferes with the battery holder, so it doesn't close. When I switched back to the old key, the alarm remote no longer worked. However, I could still enable and disable the alarm with the door key and start the car.

The same thing happend to me. In order to disarm your car, manually open your tunk, which disarms the alarm. then start your car, then close your trunk. Your alarm won't be on anymore so youll have to manually lock it everytime. Goodluck

I have the older style remote, I dont think it has an immobilizer transponder, all that was inside the remote was one circut board for the buttons and the batteries, there wasnt anything up by the key.

I didnt do anything weird. I just took apart the remote, took out the old batteries, put in new ones and put it all back together. I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it, but I would really like my remote working again. Any suggestions anyone?
