Like the title says. You turn the switch on you can hear the relays. If you put it on AC the radiator fan does go on with the switch. The blower motor doesnt work at all, and squeaked badly before. Im guessing its dead. Anything besides spending $270 to replace it?

To save some money, my suggestion is to get a part number for the blower and cross-reference what other VW's it works in.

Once you know what other cars use the same exact blower, visit a u-pull-it style junkyard and get one from around $10-$15 or less

Running some hot leads with fuse to the terminals on the motor would be a good place to start. I could just be jammed with dead rats and santa claus!

hi figure it out yet? you may have to take off the dash so that you can get to the blower motor to see if it's stuck, bad bearing or something holding it up. Since you're getting power since you can hear the relays, the radiator fan turns on and you said it squeaked, I am assuming it worked then stopped.

I had the same symptoms with a missing ground, on two vehicles, the 87, and my 1980.

Double check the ground above the clutch pedal.

i would have thought a ground as well since i had noticed that with my 85 8v and when i plugged it back in, voila! but, unless a ground or hot lead has either worked it's way loose, or maybe major corrosion or burnt wire, since you said it had worked, was squeaking then just stopped, i'm wondering if it's a motor (or bearing) gone out or the resistor is burnt out. There's test for that in the Bently manual but you'll have to take off the dash to get them.
