    Tapping Sound After Starting

    Started the car up and ended up with a horrible tapping noise. Sounded like a diesel. Turned it off. Had it towed to find out that a gear in the oil pump died.

    The dealership is now quoting me $2600+ for a repair. 9 hours of labor plus $1400 for the part.

    Has anyone experienced this before? If so, how did you handle it?

    It obviously ran while dry of oil
    Make sure the cylinders and piston/rings
    are looked at for damage,among other things
