So you're saying the feeling of accomplishment is the same for both manual and DSG? This I do not agree with whatsoever. In the context of drag racing: in a DSG car the driver is basically replaceable. You pick a random person off the street and put them in there and tell them how to activate launch control and they would do about as well as you can.

In a manual, the driver is not replaceable. The car's performance depends heavily on the driver.

BTW, I agreed with you in my first post that the DSG is flat out better at drag racing and maybe also on the track.
It all depends on what your priority is and where you draw your satisfaction from.

Some people want to focus on the perfect line, braking points, nailing the perfect time and not worrying about shifting. Nothing wrong with that and they will always be faster than me.

I get my satisfaction from all of those things and from managing the shifter as well. It may slow me down overall, but I really derive great pleasure from nailing a perfect heel and toe downshift and having more control over the car.

Neither approach is better than the other, they are just different and meet the different needs of different people.

    I completely agree with you.

But I was talking more so about the drag strip experience in this case. With the DSG, you simply need to set launch control and take your foot off the brake and your off. With the AWD in our cars, I'm sure you can even take your hand off the wheel and be fine.

Come on BRSomm. This is just too eloquent and logical for an internet forum.

Even with the drag strip, some are just concerned about posting the fastest numbers and that gives them great satisfaction. For others, it's nailing the perfect launch and shift, and the DSG is just cheating.

I have a friend with a Magnum SRT who keeps trying to get me to go to the strip. Neither of us are experienced track drivers, but I can get away from him and he can't shake me on the road coarse, but I know at the strip he'll trash me and I just have no interest in developing that particular skill set.

    1/4 mile times = DSG > MT.

I could teach my 10 year old to run this down the 1/4 - it if he could reach the pedals & he would be faster (because he weighs less than 30kg's dripping wet).

The AWD also makes it track dead straight too. No torque steer, one finger on the wheel.

I'm sure it would be a lot faster if we stripped some weight out of it, it's a heavy lump, but comfortable. Pull the stickers off & it's a real sleeper

Wheelspin is the issue, if we could get drag slicks on and some extra width, I'm sure it would go low 10's.

Problem is we are limited to 18" wheels because of brakes (yes - it's a circuit car) and we have the stock body & guards which limits us to a 235 tyre profile patch. 265's would be nice!

I know Guy from previously having had my car tuned by him (with another tune now) all I can say re this car is it is something else forget dsg vs manual I just say this try and find me a 10 second car that is fully streetable and does not get one look from the police. I love my drags and am running a 13.6 from a k03 1.8t so I hopefully can say I know what I am talking about, this time is amazing. To put it in perspective the only car faster than it at probably one of the fastest drag strips going needed a parachute. All I can say is well done APR

A manual is for the USA.....we don't want you to be as fast as us Euro and Aussie weenies.

Laid down a 12.6 1/4 mile yesterday myself on a full weight, road tire stage 2+ with a torque limited box. APRs stage 3 car on the same day did an 11.6.......and I think that still has stock engine internals!! And also a full interior.
