Every generation has to look completely different than the last one? God I am sick of people holding this car to different standards than every other car. Is the new golf a faux retro throwback because it somewhat resembles the 1980 rabbit? If you dont like it, fine, but shut up with the stupid cliches all the time. Are you going to bitch about the LRA next?

    I see Aston too!

But realistically this is too small to be a replacement for the mustang, you can tell by the size of wheels in proportion to the body that this is more of a g37 sized car and us 'Mericans need more rear head room than a g37 could offer.

I see about as much Genesis and BRZ in this as I do in a Dodge Dynasty. It is quite the looker, though!

    awesome title
i was so disappointed when the "Re-Body" thread was locked

I doubt ford will make a mustang with that drastic of a body change. I agree with PlatinumGLS I really want the Retro "Muscle" Cars to die off... All of them, Charger, Challenger, Mustang, and Camero
    Did i miss any?

srsly? i'm no iconic stay-at-home automotive designer, but some of the lines on the above two cars certainly came to my amateur mind. the rear shot that mazda 3s posted shows what i saw as a slightly viperish (new viper) tail, and you all seem to agree with my nod to aston. but that c pillar swell and those bulbous side character lines, not to mention the proportions and dimensions, certainly evoke the legendary korean/japanese race kars i mentioned.

The Mustang is more a continuation, like the 911, Astons, and the like. It's as though the original just kept evolving to this point. The Challenger is a decidedly retro car, and I love it. The Camaro is just a styling mishmash that mixes '67 and '69 cues with futuristic proportioning.

Retro is making a new car look old, which is different than what the Mustang has been doing. It's subtle, but it is different. Andf it's nice to have those choices on the market. Not every car has to be futuristic.
I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

Nice of you guys to compare my work to this render... because really these days how many ways can you design a car. There's always going to be past car features and design cues seen in new cars... intentionally or unintentionally.

In the case of this "future" Mustang, all I see is Aston in the rear and an ugly front.
New corporate sold cars will never have the same level of class as concepts because conglomerates purposely lower design beauty so that they'll have a better version to sell you next year or next decade.

All Ford has to do here, is build a cheap DB9. Use steel instead of aluminum, cheaper leather, and throw the Coyote V8 in it. the body is already there, and the market has proven people will buy a 40-60k mustang. The real problem is also coming up with a car you can sell in stripped form for 25k.

My first car was a 1968 Mustang Fastback in Highland Green. It vaguely resembled the Bullitt Mustang accept that McQueen's had a 390 and a Manual transmission, whereas mine had a 302 with an automatic. My second Car was a 1969 Mustang Fastback ( Sportsroof ) in Winter Blue, with again, a 302 and an A/T. I've also had a few Scirocco's and also an ' arrest me red ' Corrado. Which I did happen to get a speeding ticket in.

In any case, I think that this Mustang is the best looking 'stang since the 1969 model. It is the first Mustang in several decades which can actually be called sleek. Also, I like that it resembles an Aston Martin. Remember that James Bond ( played by Sean Connery ) drove a Bright Red 1971 Mach I in a wild chase through night-time Las Vagas in ' Diamonds Are Forever ' . I could see 007 driving a gun-metal gray version of this Mustang very easily. Maybe Ford could use this to promote this next 'stang, as several Mustangs have appeared in the Bond films .

really disagree with this. I think the Mustang styling has jumped around a lot between different generations

Front is a bit ugly, but DAT ASS! About time the Mustang got some body lines and curves back, its been slab sided for a little while now.

And I, for one, am looking forward to the idea of a turbo 6 being available along with IRS. People said the ecoboost engine wouldn't work in the F-150, and now that's the most desired and best selling engine for that truck. I fully expect the Mustang to follow suit.

I like it, but it doesn't look like a mustang. Then again, the foxbody definitely didn't look like a mustang, but ended up being wildly successful.
