I dont have the deepest pockets to dish out 1800 dollars on a superb set of coilovers. I was just looking at the different brands and have a few questions. I have a 2004 v6 passat fwd. I dont want to buy complete crap but I just cant afford 1800 dollars for H&R or other top notch coilovers.

What are your opinions on brands:
    ST
    Solowerks
    Vogtland
    Raceland
    etc?

Anything drastically different or important to know between super high end coilovers and medium end coilovers?

    Thanks!!

ST and Vogtlands have a rust proof coating- ride great but won't go super low (maybe tuck tire) $750

Solowerks are very similiar to FK Streetlines they are bare metal which sucks for PA winter, but will get you low and ride decent. $500

Racelands are just a super cheap way to lower your car. Might not ride too bad if they are not spun all the way down. Not great Quality. $200

Differences include Materials, Quality Control, Adjustability, Warranty, Ride Quality, Handling, Customer Service.........YGWYPF.

    Good Luck

Yeah, just take your time and do some research.

Actually ST and Vogtlands are pretty much the same thing with different stickers. Also look at FK silverlines/Highsports(850-900). I have Vogtlands now and I am hoping to pick up some H&R Ultralows around Xmas (1200). Most vendors have good sales around the holidays!

If you plan to go to a track day or autoX'ing, I wouldn't recommend any of the above. I believe that not a single one of them offer a lifetime warranty. If you want really good coilovers for a low price I'd go with Koni 1150's ($1200). They're adjustable in height and dampening and come with a lifetime warranty. GL

I don't think I'm going to race or autox my Passat. Haha they aren't meant for speed. What about the FK streetline coilovers?

I hear ya. I wouldn't trust anything from FK. I had their adjustable links and their shock/struts and they were all absolute garbage. I didn't even race with them an the grommet in the link fell out. The springs sagged way too much after only a few thousand miles. I'd go with the ST's.

The Vogtland coilovers actually have a lifetime warranty on the springs, and 10 year on the inserts. The Vogtlands and ST's are going to be better than any of the FK Streetlines/Rokkors/Racelands/Soloworks. I've used Vogtlands on my last couple cars and they normally go as low as I need them too, and still ride well. I do have one set in stock currently so shoot me a PM if interested and I'll see what kind of price I can do.

Yes. I'm by no means an expert on the matter, but from a pragmatic standpoint, you want something that you can install with confidence and not have to worry about what happens after the warranty has expired. Especially with something as expensive (and critical, in terms of safety) as your suspension.

Ok that makes complete sense. I was thinking this from the beginning. I didn't really wanna spend 350 on a major suspension component. I think 600-900 is a good range?

Yeah, that's a good guesstimate. Since you're not going racing with them you don't really need any bells and whistles (ie-adjustable dampening). I'd go with those Vogtland's mentioned above because of their warranty. Maybe that poster can get you a good deal. GL

The STs are made by KW in Germany and they are the same as KW V1s except they are galvanized instead of stainless and have a 5 year warranty instead on lifetime. PM sent

    I didn't know that a 5yr warranty trumped a 10yr warranty.

Also, racelands are 400 not 200 as previously stated.

These still have room to go down on the STs
