I have a 98 Jetta wolfsburg. Last night my alarm went off so.I went. Outside and my radio was on and my dash was lit up. I started the car and it wouldn't shut off unless I stalled it out. And the dash lights and radio stay on until I unhooked the battery. I changed the ignition switch this morning and no difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sticky load reduction relay maybe? Don't think that would keep the fuel pump relay energized though.
Time to break out the wiring diagrams and start checking, start with the ignition switch harness. Something's shorted somewhere.

i know in the more simple times, a bad diode in the alternator would feedback the coil and keep the engine running. Obviously this wouldn't keep the dash lights on. You sure there's not a malfunctioning remote-start system installed? those cheap ones always seem to get weird after a few years.

Bad remote start is a possibility as well. I was assuming the car was all stock...is it?
I should not ASSuME.

There is no remote starter. The car is bone stock. I replaced the ignition switch right after the problem arised so that's not it either. Someone said it could be the factory alarm module gone bad. I changed the start relay too #175
