I've had a long history of owning VWs, and despite loving the MK5 GTI that I built:

I knew it was time for a bit more junk in the trunk.

Just picked up one of these. DSG. Leather. Sunroof. No nav.

    Running the Oettingers for now.

The K04 and supporting mods are going on next week, along with coilovers. I'll have a better idea then what I'm going to do with the rims. The Oettingers actually look better than I expected. My initial thoughts was to run something like Omanyts on the car, but now I'm contemplating keep ing the Oetties and refinishing the centers/spokes white or satin silver.

Also, anyone had much experience with the AWE Tuning touring catback? I'm looking for something that's quiet except when I've really got my foot into it.

I was going to ask how you got it with the sunroof and leather without the autobahn rims, until I realized you're in Canada. And i'm sure you all have different packages there. Do you have an autobahn trim available too?

    Awesome!! I love CW!

The race is on to see who is K04 powered first!

Should have mine together in a week or so!

Totally different packages. The autobahn rims were available, for an additional $985. Most GLIs I've seen running around have the autobahn rims.

How much louder above stock at low to moderate acceleration? What about going up a steep hill? Are you running a full TBE? Would is pass the picky gf/wife test?

Let us know how the HPA SHS coils handle on the GLI. If they work out fine, it's further evidence of the compatibility of GTI parts for the GLI, which really expands options for us GLI folks with aftermarket support as slim as it is.

I think the Oettingers look better on the Jetta personally. I think you should see how it looks lowered and then make the decission IMPO.

    Absolutely will do.

Thanks. I thought I'd hate the Oettingers on the Jetta, but they look pretty good actually. I'm definitely going to get the coils on first before I make any firm decisions. That said, even if I keep them, I'd like so with a satin silver finish on the centers/spokes.

Hey! Its PeeLo, not pee low (as in my names PJ and Paolo mixed together). Gosh you make my name sound like i'm someone who likes to pee low. LOL

And...until you have your k04 installed, you will not have officially one upped me yet. But really though, I commend you for being the pioneer on the whole DG experiment. I really wanted to do it, but I just can't afford to have another issue with my car should it not pan out. So I give you much respect man!

On a different note, I scheduled an appointment to get dynoed on a mustang dyno this Wednesday. I haven't seen posted dyno results of a modified GLI yet so I'll gladly be the first.

Lol. Looking forward to hearing what you think about that suspension setup. As I mentioned, if I don't like the coils on the car, I'll be strongly looking at your setup. Keep us in the loop on your installs.

As for mine, the coils went on today. Heart transplant probably on Tuesday.

I'm still interested in getting some additional info on the AWE Tuning Touring catback. With the Helmholtz resonator, how does this compare to the RSC system? I understand RSC hasn't been released for the GLI yet, but I would imagine it would be very similar to the MK6 GTI.

Also, a few more teaser/build pics. K04 going in tonight with fresh gaskets.

OMG you pulled off everything to install the Intercooler!! I just kind of slid the radiator support towards the front a couple inches and swapped out the intercoolers. I noticed the GLI was not going to be the same as a GTI for the FMIC install due to the condenser not fitting through the rad support.

I had to use a piece of wood also to keep the hood up.. Now I have some hood struts and could not be happier!

Have you flashed your ECU yet?

I've got a friend (a vw tech as it so happens) doing the work. With the front pulled off like that, he had the FMIC swapped out in just over an hour. Impressive.

Working on the flash for tomorrow!

Lol. That was exactly what I noticed too. (And I HATE reverse rake). But she's much better now that all the OEM parts are out of the trunk. I still may raise the rear up a touch though. I'll wait until next week to make any tweaks to the suspension.

Hoping to have the car back with the K04 tune in a few hours.

As for the Oetties, I thought I'd be ditching them on this car too, but they're growing on me also. They weigh about 24.5lbs per corner.

    Aaaaaaaaaaand she's tuned again.

Definitely need the traction control deactivate, but she hooks up pretty good. Maybe it's the extra weight and longer gears, but seems like I can put the power to the road a little easier in 2nd gear.

Hard to say so far. But initial thoughts: Feels slightly less quck, but every bit as fast. The gear is longer on the GLI, so I'm getting used to that. The coils are more comfortable on the GLI, but still not sure if this is what I'll stick with in the long run. Overall, I'm quite happy.

Can you elaborate how the coils are more comfortable? If you decide to sell the coils, let me know.

Ya, some combination of the longer gears and heavier car are equating to getting the power to the road more efficiently.

I also failed to mention I picked up the car at 1 from my APR dealer, and by 5 I was leaving with the car for a 4.5 hour road trip. She ran great all the way up. Only issues I've noted so far is a small noise from the front (sway bar maybe?), and perhaps a clunk from the rear. I had the mechanic that worked on the car look at it, and it's nothing major. I'll change it down later.

Also, my current FTG height: Front: 24.75"; Rear: 25"

Feels like the car is able to absorb medium to large bumps easier and with less fuss. Even small bumps are absorbed better, however these's still a classic "coilover" feel on small bumps of a little extra bounciness. It's not rough with these coils, but still exists.

I think most guys wouldn't care, but I'm fussy.

I'll change it down later.

Also, my current FTG height: Front: 24.75"; Rear: 25"

Great News.. Its nice to hear everything is running good and no blown coils or other odd codes!

Did you replace the stock sway bars? Did you get an alignment yet?

    No coilpack or code issues.

No alignment yet. Didn't have time before I hit the road. I'll get it done early next week. I'm on stock sways. My muddy who's a mechanic thinks I can get upgraded links and that'll solve the problem.

How does the k04 feel with the DSG? Any thoughts of doing a DSG tune?

K04 with the DSG is great. I had DSG with my 09 GTI, but I believe there have been some changes to the DSG for 2012. The car runs way better in D, and the low speed 1st to 2nd issues seem nearly completely resolved. My 09 GTI NEEDED a DSG tune. I'm not sure if the GLI does.
