Have your timing belt and water pump been changed recently? If not, do that before any other mods.
My 20th is currently: clean/dirty girl, out for the summer/hiding from salt and sand, CEL on/off. I currently love/hate my car.

Get some coilovers, spacers (10mm front - 20mm rear), Unitronics tune and DG Sigma Six to start. Check out Zach!'s OEM+ build in the MK4 forum for inspiration.

Check out the 1.8t tech forum's diy thread, there's a link in there called "guide to modifying your 1.8t""

As you make money, use that to guide you

Leave the wheels on it. BBS wheels look great. Car looks clean and unmolested. Leave it tastefull.
